Jean Cannon Secretary – Hull City Supporters Trust
So unfortunately we could not finish the season with a victory at Charlton.
However, this disappointment was tempered by the scenes of genuine joy when City were presented with the League One Trophy after the game.
The genuine team spirit which has been shown on the pitch was clearly visible in the celebrations after the presentation – the spirit seems to be visible throughout all parts of the club, long may it continue.
During the close season the newsletter frequency will be reduced, but will increase when the season starts and we can hopefully be back at games…
Annual General Meeting The date of the ‘virtual’ AGM is confirmed for Saturday 29th May 2021.
The format will be the same as last year, pre-reading & the agenda will be published shortly and the Annual Report Document & Chairman’s, Secretary’s and Treasurers Report videos will be made available.
Full details of the process will be sent to members shortly.

Further to requests from a number of members the Trust has issued the following update on ongoing communication between HCST and Hull City.
The Trust Chairman was invited by the club Vice Chairman to attend an informal meeting which took place at the KCOM Stadium at the end of 2020.
No specific items were discussed, however an indication was made that the club were now in a position whereby they would like to begin working with the Trust going forward.
The Vice Chairman suggested holding a further meeting where specifics could be discussed.
Unfortunately due to lockdown restrictions and Covid issues, it has not been possible for this meeting to take place yet, although we are hopeful this will take place soon.
The Trust is in regular communication with the club and have recently raised the issue of club memberships given the ongoing Covid-19 issues and have been assured this is something the club is reviewing on an ongoing basis.
We will update members of progress once the proposed second meeting has taken place.
The Trust has been donated several items which we plan to auction off to raise funds for the Chris Chilton family to help with ongoing care costs. The Trust has already donated £522 to the appeal and this forms the 3rd stage of our support as detailed in our original article.
The second item is a signed, framed 2001/02 Hull City away shirt. This is displayed in a glass frame which is believed to be worth over £100 with dimensions of (W) 80cm x (H) 80cm x (D) 2cm. This item has been kindly donated by Andy Mills.
We will be accepting bids via Direct Message to our Twitter & Facebook accounts, as well as by email to contact@hullcityst.com. There is a reserve on the item.
The auction will close at midnight on 12th February. We will contact the highest bidder to arrange payment which will need to be received before delivery.
We would like to thank Andy for his kind donation. We would also ask that if anyone else has an item they think would generate some funds towards the appeal that they would be willing to donate to contact the Trust via email or social media. Thank you.
It is that time of year again when the Trust begins arranging the Annual General Meeting – details of which will be communicated at a later date when we have a clearer understanding of what restrictions will be in place.
As ever, the Trust cannot run without a Board and we are looking for new Board members.
By becoming a Board member you would be involved in keeping the Trust functioning. Meetings are held (usually) once every two months (currently via Zoom) and we have regular electronic communications.
This is your opportunity to have more of an input on how the trust is run.
Please contact any member of the present Board if you need more info or email contact@hullcityst.com
The Trust has been donated several items which we plan to auction off to raise funds for the Chris Chilton family to help with ongoing care costs. The Trust has already donated £422 to the appeal and this forms the 3rd stage of our support as detailed in our original article.
The first item is a signed, framed caricature of Chris Chilton.
Auction item 1 – Chris Chilton caricature
The caricature was drawn by famous film director and City fan Mark Herman (Brassed Off, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) for musician & fellow City fan Henry Priestman (The Christians) and has a dedication from Chris Chilton to Henry.
We will be accepting bids via Direct Message to our Twitter & Facebook accounts, as well as by email to contact@hullcityst.com. There is a reserve on the item of £60.
The auction will close at midnight on 23rd December so the item can be secured for Christmas. We will contact the highest bidder to arrange payment which will need to be received before delivery.
We would like to thank Henry for his kind donation. We would also ask that if anyone else has an item they think would generate some funds towards the appeal that they would be willing to donate to contact the Trust via email or social media. Thank you.
After an excellent start to the season City have been pegged back in recent weeks, losing three games in a very busy October.
Hopefully this is just a bump in the road, but it is concerning that a number of teams are choosing to play a formation against which we don’t seem to have an answer.
It’s the FA Cup this weekend with the visit of Fleetwood Town and chance for City to avenge the defeat at the start of October. On the upside, at least there will be no Captain Pugwash music! Commentary on the game will be available on BBC Radio Humberside.
The National Lockdown has dashed any slim chance of getting fans back into games in the forseeable future.
It is now more urgent than ever that some form of financial support for clubs is forthcoming, as without it many fans may not have clubs to go back to when things return to ‘normal’.
Chris Chilton Appeal The Trust are pleased to announce that they will be contributing to the Chris Chilton appeal in a number of ways.
We will make an initial donation of £222 to the Chris Chilton fund which has been set up to pay for his care. This is a symbolic amount to recognise his record goal scoring achievements in black and amber. You can make a donation to the fund here.
Until 31/12/20 a donation will be made from the sale of every 1964/65 replica shirt produced by World Retro. The iconic shirt can be purchased here.
*** Please Note: To recive your shirt by Christmas you need to place your order by midnight on Monday 30th November. ***
More detais on our response to the appeal can be found on the Trusts website here.
Hull City Ladies Hull City Ladies have been affected by the National Lockdown.

Like all City fans we were sad to hear of the news last month regarding club legend Chris Chilton and his battle with dementia. Following a recent Board meeting, the Trust has agreed to support the Chris Chilton appeal in the following ways:
HCST will make an initial donation of £222 to the Chris Chilton fund which has been set up to pay for his care. This is a symbolic amount to recognise his record goal scoring achievements in black and amber. You can make a donation to the fund here.
Until 31/12/20 a donation will be made from the sale of every 1964/65 replica shirt produced by World Retro which can be purchased here.

DFER is pleased to work in partnership with HCST, and is happy to assist any HCST members and organisations with training and advice on how we can all become dementia friendly.
What a difference a (short) close season can make!
City unbeaten in League One and playing football which is very pleasing on the eye. Malik Wilks is a revalation in his current central role, but the whole team seem more comfortable in their positions.
Its early days yet, (and we have a tough October coming up with 8 games), but we can be cautiously optimistic about the season to come.
The downside to this is that fans are still not allowed to be present at the games.
We totally understand that we have to be guided by the health experts, but unless some financial support for clubs is forthcoming very soon, fans may not have clubs to go back to watching once things get back to ‘normal.
Hull City Membership Update On Tuesday (29th) the club released an update regarding Memberships.
Whilst not ideal for all club members, the Trust acknowledge that the club are trying to address the fact that members cannot get to see games at the KCOM. We have contacted the club to bring up a number of points which our members have brought to our attention.
The club have also published a nomber of frequently asked questions by fans for clarification. You can read the FAQs here.
Hull City Ladies Sponsorship HCST will again be sponsoring Hull City Ladies player Emma Westmorland for the 2020/2021 season.
The Trust recognise the importance of supporting womens (as well as mens ) football in the local area.
Hull City Ladies ( who have recently moved to Haworth Park to ground-share with Hall Road Rangers) are totally self-funded, unlike most other clubs at their level who receive funding from their ‘parent’ clubs. The Trust is happy to be able to help in this, and look forward to working with them in future projects.

City start the new season hoping to see a reversal in the disastrous form which led to our biggest defeat for 109 years and relegation to League One.

Hull City U23s were held to a goalless draw by Northern Premier League side Gainsborough Trinity on Tuesday night. Match report by Luke Flanners
Hull City U23s were held to a goalless draw by Northern Premier League side Gainsborough Trinity with the young Tigers having the better of the chances.
Story of the game
Hull got the game underway, and apart from a couple or corners early on, it was a fairly even start to the game. Chadwick was the first player to almost bring a mistake out of the Gainsborough keeper Jackson, but he managed to retain possession of the ball.
James Berry showed pace down the flanks after quick distribution by Robson for City, but the chance went begging. Both Berry and Chadwick were the main sources of chances out wide, with Hull naming two Trialists in the starting line up.
Gainsborough grew into the game in the latter stages of the second period, with a couple of half chances going wide. Hull City looked the most likely to score, but the first half ended goalless with a lack of cutting edge up front for the Tigers despite a good work rate from Andy Dawson’s young squad.
As the second half got underway, Chadwick went close in first two minutes with shot just wide. Berry hit the bar as City put the pressure on, and the young forward was proving to be a real thorn in the side of the home team.
Gainsborough, however, did get themselves back in the game with a deflected shot that brought great save out of Robson. Sheaf has to head the ball off the line from the resulting corner.
As the half went on, great work from Berry saw the trialist striker hit the post for City. His shot was blocked just after and away for a corner to the away side that was cleared.
Chadwick had a shot that was well saved, before the best chance of the game put over by the young forward. The ball was moved about really well with Berry involved yet again, but Chadwick blazed the effort over the bar.
A well worked free kick saw Berry’s cross just headed wide by Festus Arthur.
Gainsborough came close to winning it at the end with a header from a free kick, but the game finished 0-0 with Hull’s youngsters unlucky not to come away with the win.
Stand out players
James Berry was the best player going forward, with much of the young Hull City team’s play coming through him. He was unlucky not to score himself and almost created chances for others. Festus Arthur was solid at the back and was impressive in his first public Hull City outing.
As has been his intention for some time Geoff Bielby has today announced he has stepped down as Chairman of Hull City Supporters Trust (HCST) with effect from today, 20th August.
Geoff was appointed to the role of Chairman in March 2016 and had originally intended to serve in that role for three years. At the Board Meeting in June following the AGM, Geoff agreed to stay on as Chairman as a temporary measure until the uncertainty around the club’s position was resolved.
The decision to step down now is prompted by the recent call for a unified supporter base by HCST earlier this month with our Amber Ribbon campaign, mirrored by a call for Unity by the Vice Chairman of the Club recently.
Geoff has advised the Club earlier this week of his intentions which followed personal correspondence with the owners in November and December last year. He has now called on the Club to again meet HCST formally.
HCST is the only membership group fully affiliated to the Football Supporters Association and as such can continue to represent supporters in an informed and professional way adding value to Club /Supporter dialogue. This is needed more than ever as Clubs prepare for the safe return of fans following games behind closed doors.
Geoff will remain as a HCST Director until the 2021 AGM when he is due to seek re-election. Geoff will also remain on the FSA National Council until their next AGM which has been delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Graham Cannon will take the role of Interim Chairman with immediate effect until that appointment is ratified by the full Board of Directors at the next Board meeting.
Today HCST is launching the Amber Ribbon Campaign.
What is the purpose of the Campaign?
To allow people to show their support for Hull City AFC and to unite a fragmented fanbase behind the club, but not necessarily the current custodians.
Why Amber Ribbon?
The Amber Ribbon idea is based on the use of the Yellow Ribbon in the US Civil War to remember missing soldiers. We are using Amber Ribbon to remember missing fans and to show there are many who Will Be Back once the club is under responsible leadership. It also shows prospective new owners Hull City fans are here, ready, willing and able to support OUR club!
How can you help?
Add an Amber Ribbon to your social media name
Use the hashtags #WeWillBeBack and #BackInAmber
Put an Amber Ribbon in your window, tie one on your door or simply wear an Amber Ribbon or badge
Future Plans?
We have other ideas to develop this campaign which we will reveal in due course (including badges you will be able to purchase shortly) however we want supporters to evolve this idea themselves and be creative!
In view of the present
situation that the club finds itself in, one must question just what has been
going on in recent times.
To those of us watching from
the outside it appears that there has been a breakdown of trust and
co-operation between the players and management, be it the coaching team or
further up the management scale. Poor performances and a resistance to change a
playing system, which was obviously not working have led to this situation.
The owners have alienated
vast swathes of its fan base in recent years, stating that they didn’t matter
and could die when they wanted. This may have been so in the days when Premier
League and TV money was abundant, but now, more than ever, they will need those
remaining fans to stay, and they must do something to build bridges and
encourage those who no longer attend matches to return and fall in love with
Hull City AFC again.
Whatever has happened in the
past, the club now finds itself where it is. The question is then, how does the
Club see its future?
We call upon the club to respond to the following points.
Sale of the club
The club has been for sale
for 6 years now with little progress being made. We believe that this is
due to unrealistic pricing, especially as there is a depleted playing squad and
tangible assets limited to a small training ground. Can the club please
confirm:
the club is still for sale
the asking price will be sensibly reduced
rather than being the debt owed to Allamhouse Limited
Playing resources
Recent profits made by the
club have largely been down to player sales and parachute payments. As the
latter have run out now it is clear that the strength of the playing squad will
be vital to the short-term future of the club. Can the club please confirm:
they will continue to invest in the academy and
build on the progress already made
you believe that the current recruitment set up
is able to identify suitable new players at the appropriate fee and the current
manager is the man to develop those players
will there be a change in approach to
renegotiating player contracts given the number of players who have refused to
sign a new contract over the last few years
Membership scheme
Whilst there are still flaws
in the membership scheme the price changes made last season have at least made
it workable. Can the club please confirm:
the scheme is to continue for 2020/21
the pricing is not going to increase
that charges are only going to start when supporters are able to attend
due consideration will be given to reinstating concessions for disabled
fans
the ‘benefits/bonus’ packages for members will finally materialise
Fan Engagement
We urge the club to
re-engage with the trust at this difficult time – remember we are all in this
together. Under Department for Digital, Culture,
Media and Sport (DCMS) guidelines football clubs must have “structured
dialogue” with supporters and this must involve a Supporters Trust (if it
exists). This is now part of the EFL Rulebook.
Stadium capacity
The club has recorded some of the lowest attendances at the
KCOM during the last season and the Trust is concerned that this decline will
continue with League 1 football. Can the club please clarify what steps
will be considered to increase attendances to levels previously recorded in
League 1 at the KCOM. Can the club please confirm:
there will be no
further stand closures
special pricing initiatives
will be adopted at half term and other special times
loyalty of fans
will be rewarded
walk-up one off
prices will not be excessive
The KCOM Stadium
We note that the
stadium management company has made significant losses whilst under the current
ownership and as far as we are aware has not paid any return to Hull City
Council. Can the club please confirm:
appropriate steps
are being made to reduce losses and ultimately make a payment to the council
a reasonable
refurbishment policy will be adopted to bring areas of the stadium suffering
wear back to the required standard
that a suitable
dilapidations provision is being made in the accounts by the end of the current
lease
