Playfair Qatar

FIFA’s decision to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar has been controversial from the off, with much of the focus being on the suitablility of the climate for football.

However, a more important issue has arisen – that of the conditions in which the hundreds of thousands of  migrant workers brought in to build the stadia and all the necessary infrastructure are forced to work.   Qatar’s kafala sytem puts employees completely at the mercy of employers and safety is a low consideration: it is estimated that 4,000 workers will die in the building of Qatar’s World Cup.

You can read more about this, and see how you can add your voice to put pressure on FIFA to exert real influence on Qatar to change this situation, here on the Football Supporters’ Federation website, and pressure sponsors through the TUC website here.
