Weekly News Update

So, yet another transfer window ends with City fans feeling deflated. Granted, the loan window is open for a few weeks yet which may see some fresh faces arrive but it is disappointing to not see the manager get the permanent signings he wanted. Also, the strategy of having lots of loan players in your squad has not exactly paid dividends in the last two seasons.

Back to on-field matters and City succumbed to a 3-1 defeat against a fairly average Aston Villa side. The two goal margin was perhaps harsh in what was an even game but City lacked the killer instinct to take their chances and showed nothing to defy pre season predictions of a battle to avoid the drop.

This weekend City head to Sheffield Wednesday, a fixture where in 2004 we took  8,000 fans midweek. That figure is disappointingly nearly as many as the amount of current pass holders and there’ll be a fraction of that amount heading to South Yorkshire on Saturday. Although, the Owls haven’t helped matters by charging £39 for tickets.

City then revisit the Steel City on Tuesday for their Carabao Cup tie against Sheffield United. There’s no doubt which game Nigel Adkins would prefer to win although a cup run is always welcome.

Hull City Academy
The Academy Twitter account has finally been renamed to “Hull City Academy”.

Well done to the club for making this change.

Development Review
Pre-season is over and the development sides are back in league action this weekend.  On Saturday the under 18s kick off their campaign at home against Coventry City.  

Kick-off at Bishop Burton College is scheduled for 12:00.  Then on Sunday the under 23 side entertains Colchester United at the KCOM stadium in a 13:00 kick off.  We are sure the lads would appreciate any support they can get at these two fixtures.

As part of the under 23 competition rules five games have to be played at a home stadium and these are the following matches which will take place after first team games at the KCOM stadium with kick-off at  17:00.

Saturday 20th October 2018 v Sheffield Wednesday U23s
Saturday 3rd November 2018 v Nottingham Forest U23s
Saturday 16th February 2019 v Burnley U23s
Saturday 6th April 2019 v Crystal Palace U23s

The remaining fixtures are scheduled to be played at the Roy West Centre.

Whilst there has been little incoming transfer activity of late, there has been an outgoing this week when goalkeeper Will Mannion joined National League side Aldershot Town on loan until January 2019.  We wish Will well for this spell and hopefully he will gain additional first team experience in a competitive league.

Last week we reported that we would be keeping note of the players released this summer as they progress with other teams.  We start with Greg Olley who wasted little time in making an impact for his new club last Saturday.  He chipped in with a cracking goal for Gateshead in their 1-3 victory at Maidenhead United in their opening National League fixture.

Weekly News Update

The HCST newsletter is back for the start of the 2018-19 season. We hope you all had a good summer enjoying the heatwave and England’s exploits in the World Cup leaving you refreshed and hungry for the domestic football season ahead and its inevitable high and lows.

The Trust has still been busy working on behalf of our members over the summer as you will have seen from our news updates which you can access here and here .

Around the club there have been a couple of positive changes with the local media, in particularly David Burns, being back in favour which we feel is a small positive step towards building a better relationship between the club and supporters. However, there is still a way to go, specifically on concessions where there has been no tangible outcome or progress from the clubs talks with the FSF meaning any introduction of concession pricing won’t be able to be effective until November assuming the two month notice period will be adhered to. There has also been mixed progress on the club name being used with some social media channels updated and work on the club website ongoing although there has been no update on the crest redesign process since the club survey. We can assure members and supporters that we will continue to try and initiate change on these matters and any other important subjects.

Back to on-the-field matters and City have brought in six signings so far. It was pleasing to see some business done early this year as this has been the downfall of the previous two seasons. However, progress has stalled in the last couple of weeks and we’re sure Nigel Adkins would like to add a minimum three new faces to the squad. Those additions could be enough to see City kick-on from last seasons disappointing finish but without further strengthening it is difficult to see the current squad performing too well given the lack of depth and quality.

On Monday we kick off the season at home to Aston Villa, who have had their own turbulent summer albeit they now seem to be on more stable ground. All home games are going to be very important this season and there’s no doubt City are capable of an ‘upset’ in the first game.

RIP Stanley Metcalf
Everyone at HCST was saddened by the news last week that young Hull City supporter Stanley Metcalf had passed away in Sproatley. 

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Rest in Peace Stanley.

Football Supporters Federation /Supporters Direct AGM Update
HCST Chairman Geoff Bielby & Secretary Richard Mathers  attended the FSF & SD AGM’s in Central London on Saturday 28th July.

The main business for both meetings was for members to consider the motions for both organisations to merge to form a single Supporters organisation. Bot SD & FSF are funded by The Football Fund do operate in similar roles but have distinct identities.

Members approved the merger but SD Members were split with many concerned the new organisation should retain the Cooperative Mutual status enjoyed by SD.

An amendment to the FSF motion, recognising the Cooperative ethos and calling for the interim board working on the merger to recognise that status in the new organisation, was passed unanimously. More details can be found here.

The next step for members when the new organisation will be launched is expected in November.

Other issues voted on  included TV scheduling of games over the Christmas & New Year period, the structure of the 2 Senior Womens League and even football’s connection with food & drink brands that are high in fat, sugar & salts.

Match Day Cards
In the interests of being open and honest we can inform you that the Trust have been in contact with the club in the past week regarding free match day cards

A number of members have concerns about the  lack of publicity of their availability, and the short period you could apply for one. The Trust have asked for this period to be extended to try and boost attendances.

The club has confirmed they are looking into this stating it is due to an EFL rule issue and we await their response. We have contacted the EFL for clarity on this and they confirm confirm that the club have to charge for the cards because it gives a discount on ticket prices, and not charging for the card would discriminate against away fans.

Hull City Guess the Score Competition
Calling all football psychics! 

Hull City supporter Andy Medcalf is running his usual Hull City Guess the Score Competition in aid of the R.N.L.I.

Andy has been running the competition for the last six seasons and has raised over £1,000 for the Withernsea branch where his brother is a crew member. To enter please complete the form from here and send to Andy here before kick off on Monday 6th August. It is only £3 to take part with all entry money being split between the RNLI and prize money. Development Review
The Billy Bly Memorial Trophy which takes place at North Ferriby and usually heralds the start of pre-season was finally played on Monday evening. 

In recent seasons Hull City has fielded a side made up of under 23 players, but this time a number of the first team squad were selected along with under 23 players on the fringe of the full squad making it a strong side taking on a North Ferriby United side in stage of transition following successive relegations.  Hull City managed to win back the trophy, winning 0-2, thanks to second half goals from Fraizer Campbell and Elliot Holmes.  It was a lovely evening and the game was played in a good friendly spirit.

All the first team squad and management attended and made themselves available for autographs and photos which was a very welcome gesture and was clearly appreciated by those in attendance.  Hopefully such gestures of goodwill and togetherness will be repeated during the season.

This week the mystery of where the under 23 side would be based for the coming season was finally resolved.  Various options were considered, including playing at Bridlington Town’s ground, but after a number of years at North Ferriby it has been decided to stage the bulk of the under 23 fixtures at the Roy West Centre.  For those unfamiliar with the Roy West Centre it is the base of the East Riding County FA and is at 220 Inglemire Lane in Hull (HU6 7TS).  Matches will continue to be free for members and £4 for non-members (with concessions £2).  More details can be found here.

A number of development players were released towards the end of last season but we will continue to keep an eye on their progress for various non-league clubs during the season as well as providing updates on the current squad.  Already Goalkeeper Charlie Andrew has returned to Pickering Town on loan again and will gain valuable experience in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division 1.

Legends Match v2
Fans wait ages to see the legends lace up their boots and then suddenly like busses there are two in quick succession!

Again the match is at the Chadwick Stadium in North Ferriby but this time a Hull City XI take on a Bristol City XI ten years after the famous play off final.  The event is staged to benefit the Hull charity Case and tickets are £3 (under 5s free) and there is plenty of non-football related entertainment as well.

Weekly News Update

With the excitement of England’s heroics in the World Cup, it’s easy to forget that the new League season is less than 4 weeks away.

We all no doubt felt immense pride in seeing Harry Maguire’s bullet header against Sweden on Saturday, just over 12 months after he left City for the more settled waters at Leicester for a ridiculously low bargain price, but how much is he worth now in the market? 

Back to club matters, our thin looking squad is now in Portugal preparing for the new campaign. Surely we won’t see as many players leaving early this year to secure deals elsewhere but even with 2-3 deals for new signings pending, Nigel Adkins must be backed much further if we are to avoid another struggle in the bottom half of the table next season.

Behind the scenes, the Trust Board has continued to represent the views of our members at both local & national level over the summer months and are well prepared for the new season when activity levels will no doubt increase.

But for now let’s wear our 3 Lions shirts with pride and dare to believe that ‘football’ really is ‘coming home’

HCST Sponsor Team at Emmaus Football Tournament
Sunday 1st July saw the Emmaus Portland Cup five-a-side trophy being played at Goals Hull.  As well as the hosts six other Emmaus communities (Glasgow, Lambeth, Leeds, Mersey, Mossley and Salford) competed along with a team from Aunt Bessie’s who are amongst the sponsors of the Hull community.

As part of our ongoing support for football based projects in the community The Trust were happy to sponsor the shirts for the Hull team and pop down to Goals and video the events of the day.  The video will appear on our YouTube channel shortly.

Emmaus supports formerly homeless people by giving them a home, meaningful work in a social enterprise and an opportunity to get back on their feet again.  These companions are assisted with training and developing the skills needed to get back into work and then ultimately find a place of their own.

For many who experience homelessness, one of the biggest obstacles they must overcome is a loss of self-esteem. Emmaus provides people with a stable home and the opportunity to regain their self-worth, making a real contribution to their community.  Research shows that for every £1 invested in a community, there is an £11 social, environmental and economic return, with savings to the benefits bill, health services and a reduction in crime reoffending.

Emmaus Hull has a 30 room community home, The Orchard, at their base down Lockwood Street together with their Furniture Superstore and café (which is handy if visiting the Banksy and Bankside Gallery).  There are other shops located at Hessle Road, Newland Avenue and Whitefriargate.

Emmaus also provides the rough sleeper outreach service for Hull and East Riding which is a vital lifeline to some of the most vulnerable members of society.

On the day it was Aunt Bessie’s who came out as champions beating Emmaus 3-1 in the final which was played in glorious conditions for the spectators albeit hot for the participants!

Hull City Legends in North Ferriby United Benefit Game
England’s glorious victory wasn’t the only football to be seen last Saturday.  Earlier at 12:30 a team of Hull City Legends blew the dust off their boots and took on a team of North Ferriby United Legends at the newly renamed Chadwick Stadium down Church Road.

It was great to see the old boys strutting their stuff and in some cases proving that they ‘still have’ it on what was a lovely sunny day.  The game was played to benefit North Ferriby United who are suffering financial problems after their second successive relegation and recent second change of ownership and formed part of a double header with the first friendly game of the season.

Ferriby ran out 6-5 winners thanks to a ‘Testimonial standard’ last minute penalty award; to be fair there was no way extra time could have been played!

Hull City Shirt Auction in aid of Trawler Memorial Groups – Update
As of publication date £2871.45 has been raised for the Trawler Memorial Groups from the Shirt Auctions.

The shirts were kindly donated by the Club to the Triple Trawler Memorial Group who asked the Trust to advise them. We in turn  asked Les Motherby of @HullCityKits to organise the auction.

The Trust thank Les for this magnificent total, which will be split between the four Trawler Memorial Groups.

Weekly News Update

City rounded off a forgettable season with a 1-1 draw away at Brentford in front of a decent away following. Jarrod Bowen rediscovered his goal scoring boots from the first half of the season and Daniel Batty made his first team debut.
Now it’s time for a break from domestic football over the summer with a World Cup to look forward to. You won’t hear from us every week but we will be in touch if there is anything important to tell you. Rest assured we will still be representing supporters on important issues during the summer.
Thank you for your support during another testing year, it is appreciated and your feedback is always welcome. We wish you all a good break and you will hear from us again before too long.
Here’s your trust update for this week…
Supporters Direct EFL Trust Meeting
As mentioned last week, HCST Directors Sue Dyson and Geoff Bielby were in London last Thursday (3rd) for two meetings.
The first of these was the Supporters Direct EFL Trust Meeting
Subjects discussed including the SD /MP’s Letter Campaign re: EFL Conduct of Owners consultation.
As well as HCST, Blackpool, Birmingham, Charlton, Cardiff, Barnsley & Scunthorpe Supporters Trust representatives were in attendance.
Minutes of the meeting will be published shortly on the SD website.
FSF EFL Fans Group Meeting
The second meeting was for the FSF EFL Fans Group.
Subjects discussed included Stand Up For Choice, Structured Dialogue, Late Notice Postponements & Ticket Pricing.
The meeting was attended by Trust reps from  Aston Villa, Barnsley, Birmingham, Blackpool, Brentford, Cardiff, Colchester and Scunthorpe, as well as HCST.
Minutes of the meeting will be published shortly on the FSF website.
Supporters Direct National Council
HCST Chairman Geoff Bielby attended his first meeting as a member of the SD National Council on Tuesday (8th).
The meeting was attended by fellow Councillors and SD Board members from Exeter Leeds Blackpool Cardiff Coventry Spurs and Wimbledon plus Senior SD officials.
A number of topics were discussed including the Regulatory Reform Campaign, and there was a detailed update from Kat Law one of the two Fans Representatives on the FA Council.
Hull City Shirt Auction in aid of Trawler Memorial Groups
HCST are pleased to announce that some of the shirts worn at the Chelsea game commemorating the Triple Trawler disaster are to be  sold.
The shirts have kindly been donated by the Club to the Triple Trawler Memorial Group who asked the Trust to advise them. We in turn have asked Les Motherby of @HullCityKits to organise the auction.
The funds raised will be split between the four Trawler Memorial Groups

This is an excellent example of the Trust working with the Club and other Fans organisations to benefit the local community and hopefully will lead to many more joint ventures.
EFL – FSF Survey  ‘Stand up for Choice’
Linked to the recent Parliamentary Petition on Safe Standing passing 100,000 signatures, the EFL & FSF have conducting a survey of fans view on having standing areas at venues. 
This survey has recently closed and the information gleaned will be used to make representations to the EFL.
We would like to thank everyone who took part.
Hull City Ladies
After a 2nd defeat in 3 games, Hull City Ladies still need 2 points to clinch the league title with 2 games to play.
A 0-1 defeat at Newcastle meant the champagne was placed on ice for the Tigresses but a home game this Sunday against 2nd bottom Mossley Hill provides a real opportunity to get promotion sewn up this week.
As usual, it’s a 2pm kick off at the Hull University playing ground on Inglemire Lane where hopefully a bumper crowd will see the Ladies popping their champagne corks at last

Weekly News Update

It was a history making game last weekend as City drew 5-5 away at Bristol City. It was a game that perhaps split opinions with some enjoying the fact there were 10 goals in a game whilst other bemoaned the inability to win despite scoring 5 and some dodgy defending! We can see the merits in both opinions but games like that don’t happen very often so we’ll enjoy being part of it despite the frustration of conceding in the 94th minute!
The point also meant City are safe and will be playing championship football next season. This would normally be a positive if it wasn’t for the worry of another summer of underinvestment in the transfer market, contracts running out and divisive ticket policies!
City this weekend welcome promotion chasing Cardiff City, a club that has gone through its own problems in recent season, and we wish then well after Saturday if they do go on to gain promotion.

Hull City Shirt Auction in aid of Trawler Memorial Groups
HCST are pleased to announce that some of the shirts worn at the Chelsea game commemorating the Triple Trawler disaster are to be  sold.
The shirts have kindly been donated by the Club to the Triple Trawler Memorial Group who asked the Trust to advise them. We in turn have asked Les Motherby of @HullCityKits to organise the auction.
The funds raised will be split between the four Trawler Memorial Groups

This is an excellent example of the Trust working with the Club and other Fans organisations to benefit the local community and hopefully will lead to many more joint ventures.
Jacqui Forster RIP
It is with great sadness that the Trust learned this week that Jacqui Forster of Supporters Direct had passed away after a long battle with cancer. 
Jaqui helped in the formation of almost 200 Supporters Trust and was particularly helpful to us over the proposed name change campaign and with the formation of HCST.
Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time.
EFL – FSF Survey  ‘Stand up for Choice’
Linked to the recent Parliamentary Petition on Safe Standing passing 100,000 signatures, the EFL & FSF are conducting a survey of fans view on having standing areas at venues. 
The survey only takes a couple of minutes to do and can be filled in here.
Hull City Ladies
The damage of a shock 2-1 defeat for Hull City Ladies at Crewe Alexandra last Sunday was minimised by main title rivals Brighouse Town going down at home to Morecambe by the same scoreline.
So the Tigresses will be looking to bounce back when they host Brighouse this Sunday at the Hull University playing ground on Inglemire Lane at 2pm in a game which will have a massive impact on who wins the league.
With 4 games to go, 8 points could be enough from these games due to our Ladies superior goal difference but a win this weekend will mean 2 points from the following 3 games is all that will be required to secure the title.
So if you’ve not ventured down to see the Tigresses this season, what better opportunity than effectively a title decider. Good luck Ladies

Weekly News Update

After back to back wins against QPR and Burton Albion, City showed why they are where they are in the league with a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday. The Tigers didn’t perhaps get the rub of the green and could have quite easily earned a point against their Yorkshire rivals but it wasn’t to be..
This Saturday City head to Bristol City. The Robins need a win to keep their slim play off hopes alive whilst a win for City will guarantee survival baring a significant swing in goal difference. We wish a safe journey to all those travelling.

Hull City Ticket Model
You are all no doubt aware that the Club has recently decided to ignore the votes submitted in the original ballot relating to a proposed ticketing model for next season and instead issued a 2nd ballot without any consultation with the Supporters Committee.
Needless to say as a Board we have continued to pursue this matter with both the Club and also the Football Supporters Federation and Supporters Direct, both of whom the Trust are proud members.

Here’s your Trust update…
Cocessionary Pricing Vote V2 – Update
HCST are very disappointed that despite writing to club officials last month seeking the result of the first ballot and asking questions over why there was no consultation over a second ballot, we’ve had no response.
We’ve shared full details with our affiliate organisations Supporters Direct and The Football Supporters Federation who have both contacted the club on our behalf.
We are now awaiting feedback from SD and FSF who we understand have also updated The EFL.
We will update members as soon as possible but again call on the club for dialogue and ask fans to ignore the second ballot.
RIP Eddie Cowell – A City Legend
The Trust were saddend to hear of the recent passing of Eddie Cowel aged 91.
Eddie was involved in the youth setup at City for 34 years starting as a schoolboy coach in 1978. Our thoughts are with Freddie’s family and friends at this sad time.

Development Review
It was ‘goals galore’ on Monday afternoon when the under 23 side travelled to take on Ipswich Town. 
They came away with a 3-4 victory thanks to goals from Callum Smith (2), Robbie McKenzie and Liam Edwards.  They are next in action on Saturday, after the first team play Sheffield Wednesday at the KCOM, when they take on Millwall in a 17:00 scheduled kick-off. We hope that many of you will stay behind to lend them your support.  Then next Thursday they travel down to take on Crystal Palace in a 14:00 kick-off.
It has been a slightly disappointing week for the under 18 side.  Last Saturday they were defeated 2-1 at Charlton Athletic, Max Sheaf scoring for the young Tigers.  Then on Tuesday a young side travelled to Burnley and were comprehensively beaten 4-1, with Keane Lewis-Potter on the score sheet.  They have two quick opportunities to get back to winning ways.  On Saturday they entertain Colchester United in an 11:00 kick-off at Bishop Burton, then on Tuesday they travel down to Millwall’s training ground for an 11:00 kick-off.
Hull City Ladies
The Tigresses went back to winning ways last Sunday with a hard fought 1-0 victory away at Bolton Wanderers.
This week the girls are away again at 7th place Chester le Street.
Sitting proudly at the top of the league, with 6 games to go the Tigresses are 10 points clear of their main rivals, (Brighouse Town), who do have 3 games in hand.
The forthcoming clash between the sides at  the Hull University playing ground on April 29th is increasingly looking like it will be the title decider.

Weekly News Update

Two games against teams looking to be playing Premier League football next season and you have to say, two very welcome points. City could have perhaps won either game, but they could have also lost either so overall a share of the spoils in both games was a fair result and keeps the gap to the bottom three at a reassuring seven points.
City aren’t safe yet, there’s still games to be won and perhaps Saturday offers a perfect opportunity for that. QPR visit the KCOM, a ground they don’t particularly enjoy visiting and a win here would see City really pile the pressure on those currently in the bottom three.
City then head to Burton Albion (ground tick alert!) on Tuesday where a victory could well consign the hosts to league one football next season. We’re sure four points from these next two games would see City as good as safe but then we never do it easily do we?

Development Review
Last Monday the under 18 side travelled down to Nottingham Forest’ Football Academy and were comprehensively beaten 6-0.  They are next in action tomorrow when they travel down to Charlton Athletic’s training ground for an 11:00 kick off.  Then on Tuesday they are away again at The Barnfield Training Centre for a 14:00 kick off against Burnley.
Last Tuesday the under 23 side took on Beverley Town in the East Riding FA Senior Cup semi final on the all-weather pitch at Hull University due to the continuing inclement weather.  They ran out 4-0 winners with goals from Greg Olley (2), Billy Chadwick and Robbie McKenzie.  On Monday they travel down to the Ipswich Town training centre for a fixture that kicks off at 13:00.
Development players are still doing well whilst out on loan.  Brandon Fleming’s spell at Gainsborough Trinity has been extended to the end of the season and Will Annan picked up the March Goal of the Month award at Tadcaster Albion.
Hull City Ladies
After a disappointing draw at bottom of the table Mossley Hill last Sunday, the Tigresses are on the road again this week away at mid-table Bolton Wanderers.
Our Ladies won a tight match 2-0 in the home fixture between the teams and will be aiming to improve on recent performances to cement their place at the top of the table.

Weekly News Update

No game last weekend so City have had two weeks on the training ground to improve on their performance at Birmingham City, albeit with numerous players away on international duty.
Firstly on Saturday it’s the return of Steve Bruce as he brings his promotion chasing Aston Villa side to the KCOM which also includes ex-Tigers Ahmed Elmohamady, James Chester and Robert Snodgrass. We’re sure Mr Bruce will receive a warm welcome from the home support and it will be the first time James Chester has faced the Tigers since leaving 3 years ago. Niceties aside, it’s a home fixture that City really need to get something from with games running out.
Three days later it doesn’t get any easier for the Tigers as they travel to table-toppers Wolves on Tuesday night. The table after these two games could look very different, were sure Nigel Adkins would be delighted if the gap hasn’t narrowed come 10pm Tuesday.

The Club have announced that, because of the low turnout, (18%, or almost 3,000 votes), they have decided to present an alternative scheme for people to vote on.

Weekly News Update

It was back down to Earth last Saturday as City failed to turn up at Birmingham, losing 3-0 which if anything flatted the visitors. Three points from away games at Ipswich and latterly Birmingham would have appeared a good return on paper but the contrast in the two performances is cause for concern.
Inconsistency is perhaps to be expected from a team near the bottom of the league but it makes it no less frustrating when a win at Birmingham would have seen City all but safe.
There’s no game this weekend due to international duty as England take on Holland and Italy.

Development Review
There is a great deal of activity in the development squad.  Will Annan and Ellis Barkworth have both joined Evo-Stik North club Tadcaster Albion and Adam Curry has joined National League North side Spennymoor Town, until the end of the season.

The under 18 side’s match last Saturday at Millwall was postponed but they were in action at Bishop Burton on Tuesday, when they defeated Burnley 2-1 thanks to goals from Keane Lewis-Potter and Josh Thacker.  They are in action at Bishop Burton again tomorrow when they take on Queens Park Rangers in an 11:00 kick off.
There was no game for the under 23 side last week as the fixture scheduled at Crystal Palace did not survive the weather.  They will next be in action at North Ferriby on Monday evening when they take on Bristol City in what is scheduled as a 14:00 kick off.
There is also an excellent piece in the Hull Daily Mail about the retirement of Frank Donoghue, at the grand old age of 79, who was instrumental in setting up a centre of excellence for Hull City youth.  We wish Frank well. You can read the article here.
International Break – Go see a Local Team
With no City match due to the International Break those of you wanting a proper football fix rather than watching friendlies on the TV should consider the local non-league scene.
North Ferriby United have just been relegated from the National League North but are playing with some spirit; on Tuesday they managed a 1-1 draw at home against ‘The Class of 92’s’ Salford City.
Tomorrow they take on the famous Blyth Spartans at Grange Lane in a 15:00 Kick off.  Prices are Adult £12, OAP/Student £6, Under 16 £4, Under 12 free when accompanied by an Adult.  However if you are a Hull City Season Card holder you can get specially discounted admission for £5.
At Dene Park, Dunswell East Yorkshire Carnegie take on Armthorpe Welfare in a 15:00 kick off.  Admission is Adults £5 Children and Concessions £3.
Hull City Ladies
After a frustrating postponement due to the weather, the table topping Tigresses return to action this Sunday at home to Chorley Ladies.
So if you fancy a football fix over the tedium of an International weekend, then head down to the Hull University Sports Ground on Inglemire Lane for a 2pm kick off.

Weekly News Update

We questioned last week whether Nigel Adkins was right or not to criticise his players in public after the Millwall defeat. Well two games and two wins later you have to say it was the correct decision.
The City boss may not have been thinking that just before half time on Saturday with the Tigers trailing Norwich by 3 goals to 1 however a remarkable comeback earned a 4-3 victory which was backed up with a confident and comfortable 3-0 win at Ipswich midweek.
These results have left City 9 points clear of the relegation zone and they head into this weekends clash with Birmingham City knowing a victory will put them in a very strong position of avoiding successive relegations. It won’t be easy though with the Blues also in danger of playing in League One next season and they’ll see this game as a good chance to get 3 valuable points.

Cocessionary Pricing Vote
The club have published details of the proposed Concessionary Pricing Scheme and associated Ballot.

We urge all those eligible to actually cast a vote, as failiure to do so could be misinterpreted as endorsement of the existing system.
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Many thanks to all the members who attended our Annual General Meeting (AGM) last Saturday, which included a review of our Annual Report for the previous 12 months.

HCST Board Meeting Minutes
The Trust held a Board Meeting on Monday (12th) at the William Gemmel.

As you will see, the structure of the Board for the next year was discussed and we’re delighted to announce that Geoff Bielby will continue as our Chairman, with Ryan Richardson as vice-Chairman and Pete Fleming as Treasurer.
We also welcome Deborah Johnson as a new Director and wish her well in her new role

Development Review
It has been a busy week for the under 23 side.  Last Saturday they went down 0-2 to Leeds United at the KCOM; it was good to see a number of supporters stay behind to support the team.

Last night they travelled to Burnley and came away with a 1-2 victory thanks to two goals from Tom Powell.  The game was probably of more of note for the long awaited return of Moses Odubajo who played for the first half.  Their next game is on Monday away to Crystal Palace with kick off at 13:00.
Last Saturday was a busy day with the under 18 side also in action at Bishop Burton when they were defeated 2-3 by Crystal Palace.  Goals from Dan Hawkins and Keane Lewis-Potter proved not enough for the young Tigers.  They are next in action tomorrow when they travel to Millwall for an 11:00 kick off and this is followed on Tuesday when they take on Burnley at Bishop Burton in a re-arranged fixture kicking off at 13:00.
Ben Hinchliffe has joined National League North side Gainsborough Trinity on a youth loan until the end of April.
Hull City Ladies
The table topping Tigresses were in magnificent form last Sunday as they thrashed Morecambe Ladies 7-0 to return to the top of WPL Division One with 2 games in hand on 2nd place Liverpool Feds.
They are at home again this Sunday and will be very confident of another 3 points against bottom of the table Mossley Hill. As usual, the match kicks off at 2pm at the Hull University Sports Ground on Inglemire Lane..

Weekly News Update

Just the one match since our last newsletter after City’s game against Ipswich was called off due to the weather last Saturday.
Tuesday night saw City put in arguably their worst performance of the season in a 2-1 defeat to Millwall. The first half really was one to forget as Millwall took the lead inside a minute after some shocking defending and then doubled it with a looped header with nobody in black and amber on the post. The second half was slightly better and the goal scoring return of Abel Hernandez much welcome.
Nigel Adkins publicly criticised the players after the game. It isn’t in doubt that they deserved criticising after such a poor performance however whether this was best done in the media only time will tell.
This Saturday Norwich City are the visitors to the KCOM, a game that on paper is winnable and one City must take some points from if they are to keep their cushion to the relegation places. Here’s your update from the Trust this week…

Development Review
The inclement weather has badly affected football but on Monday the under 23 managed to play.  They travelled to The Impact Arena to take on Nottingham Forest, losing 3-0.

Saturday is a busy day for Hull City.  In the morning the under18 development side takes on Crystal Palace at Bishop Burton, kick off at 11:00.  Then following the first team match against Norwich at the KCOM, the under 23 side will take on Leeds United.  We hope that good number of you decide to stay on and show your support.
The under 18 side is then in action on Tuesday 13th when they take on Leeds United at Bishop Burton College in an 11:00 kick off.  The under 23 side are also in action mid week.  On Thursday 15th they travel to Tameside Stadium to take on Burnley with kick off at 19:00.
Hull City Ladies
After suffering a cup defeat last week against West Ham Ladies, the Tigresses are at home again as they return to league action against 4th placed Morecambe this Sunday.
Just a point behind the league leaders but with 2 games in hand, the Tigresses will be looking to reclaim top-spot.
As usual, kick off time at the Hull University Sports Ground is 2pm and if you’ve never been before, get yourself down there and cheer the girls on.

Weekly News Update

Given how this season has gone, both on and off the pitch, you have to say the last week has been a success.
There was a positive meeting with the clubs management (more on that below) and 4 points earned in successive Yorkshire derbies. City looked very assured in victory over a poor Sheffield United team last Friday but had to settle for a point on a terrifically cold Tuesday evening against Barnsley.
City head to Ipswich this weekend with Abel Hernandez potentially back in the fold – his return from injury could be the difference between battling relegation and mid table security. In a poor league you do wonder where City would be if he had been available all season.

City’s game at Ipswich tomorrow has been postponed due to the severe weather conditions.
All involved are to be praised for an early decision on this, saving many fans a wasted journey.

Annual General Meeting (AGM) Notice
Can all members please note that our next AGM will be held at the William Gemmell Social Club on Saturday 10th March starting at 12:30 p.m. (prior to the Norwich City game).
Business will include Officers Reports and the election of Board Members (see below).
Election Nominees
We can now confirm that we received 5 applicants to stand as Board Members as part of our election process for 2018. All 5 have been verified by the Election Management Group, (EMG), as being current members of the Trust and have been nominated by 2 current members each.
As we have 6 potential Board vacancies available, the EMG have also agreed that Rule 35 of the Hull City Supporters Election Policy will apply:
35. If there are as many or fewer candidates than there are places, an affirmative ballot shall be held at the AGM. Each successfully nominated candidate will be put before the meeting for the approval of members. Any candidate not receiving the support of more than half of those present in person and by proxy shall be deemed to have not been elected. The exception shall be that should the failure to elect any of the validly nominated candidates leave the Board below the minimum required under the Rules for them to act, all validly nominated candidates shall be deemed elected by the EMG and this declared at the AGM.
The names and statements of the candidates will be included in next weeks newsletter, (prior to the AGM).
Richard Mathers, (HCST Secretary), would like to thank Trust members John Tindall and Tom Irvin for giving their time, feedback and diligence as part of the EMG, as well as non-member Allison Branson who oversaw the process as an independent observer.
Supporters Committee Meeting
The Supporters Committee met on Monday 26th February. Chairman Geoff Bielby attended on befalf of HCST.
Geoff reported that he felt real progress had been made at the meeting. Neither Ehab or Assem Allam attended, but Senior Management from the club did.

Survey for Student’s Dissertation
We have contacted by a student at Nortumbria University who is doing a dissertation on the perception of BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) football managers in English football.
He is asking for fans to fill in an on-line survey to help him. You can find the survey here.
Development Review
It was a good week for the under 23 team.  On Friday a young side drew 1-1 away against Sunderland at Eppleton Colliery thanks to a goal from Keane Lewis-Potter.  Then on a bitterly cold Monday evening at North Ferriby they went one better than the first team beating Barnsley 2-1 with two goals from Ben Hinchliffe.

They next take on Nottingham Forest at 19:00 on Monday away at the Impact Arena (weather permitting).
The under 18 game away at Burnley this weekend has already fallen foul to the bad weather, following the match scheduled at Nottingham Forest which was due to be played last Wednesday.
It has been a busy week for academy signings.  Keane Lewis-Potter has signed his first professional contract, and both Robbie Mckenzie and Tyler Hamilton have signed new two year contracts.
Left back Brandon Fleming has joined National League North side Gainsborough Trinity on an initial one month loan deal.
Hull City Ladies
The Tigresses were in fine form last Sunday with a thumping 4-1 home win over Newcastle, which took then back to the top of their league and with a game in hand!
This Sunday, (weather permitting), the focus turns to the Women’s Plate and a semi-final tie at home to West Ham, with a 2pm kick off at the Hull University Sports Ground on Inglemire Lane.
So if you’re not going to Ipswich on Saturday and need a ‘football fix’ this weekend, why not pop along and cheer the ladies on.

Weekly News Update

Two games since our last newsletter and, disappointingly, predictably two defeats. There’s no shame in losing away to Chelsea, albeit City perhaps made things a little too easy for the hosts. However, City were not at their best on Tuesday night and were deservedly beaten 3-1 by Middlesbrough with the all too familiar defensive mistakes on show. 
This Friday night Sheffield United come to the KCOM for a Yorkshire derby. The Blades thumped City 4-1 earlier in the season so hopefully there will be a desire for revenge among the players and a personal motivation from the manager against his former employers.

Final Call – HCST Board Election – 2018
Further to the notification relating to our re-scheduled Annual General Meeting, (now scheduled fo犀利士
r Saturday March 10th), can we remind you that 6 Board positions will be available for election or re-election at the AGM. 
As a reminder, any fully paid up member aged 16 or over can be considered for nomination, provided they have been nominated by 2 other fully paid up members. It is recommended that any members potentially interested fully read and understand the Trust Election Policy, (available via our website), and pay particular attention to point 13-22 of the Policy.
We welcome applications from all Members fulfilling the criteria above, but as we have previously stated, we would particular be keen in any Member with an interest in assisting in producing our Weekly Newsletter and other general written media publications for the Trust.
The amended Election Nomination form can be downloaded here in Word format, and needs to be received by our Secretary by Saturday 24th February, 2018 (So you haven’t got long left).
Should any Member wish to receive further details of the role and activities as a Trust Director, then please drop an e-mail to secretary@hullcityst.com or come and discuss with one of the existing Board Members between 1pm – 2.30pm at the William Gemmell on a Saturday matchday.
Supporters Committee Meeting
Following the postponement of the Supporters Committee meeting on Wednesday 7th February Hull City advised the supporters representatives on Wednesday 21st the next meeting will be on Monday 26th February.
HCST Chairman elected to Supporters Direct national Council
Congratulations to HCST Chairman Geoff Bielby on his election to the Supporters Direct England and Wales Football Council.
We are sure he will work well in this national role for the benefit of City fans and fans nationally.

Survey for Student’s Dissertation

Development Review
The under 23 played out what appears to have been a fairly dull 0-0 draw at Sheffield Wednesday on Monday afternoon.  More importantly in the short term for the club was that Abel Hernández came through a 55 minute run out unscathed as part of his injury recovery process

They next take on Sunderland at Eppleton Colliery this Friday evening and then on Monday evening entertain Barnsley at North Ferriby.  Both of these matches are 19:00 kick offs.
Last Saturday the under 18 side travelled to Huddersfield and came away with an impressive 1-6 victory.  Ahmed Salam scored a hat-trick and Keane Lewis-Potter, Jacob Greaves and Mason Wilson-Rhiney all chipped in with a goal apiece.  Their next game is next Wednesday when they travel to Nottingham Forest’s football academy for a 12:00 kick off.
Hull City Ladies
After a comfortable 2-0 over Bolton last Sunday, the Ladies are in league action again on Sunday, at home against Newcastle.
Kick off is 2pm at the Hull University Sports Ground on Inglemire Lane.

Weekly News Update

The City Ground lived up to its name again as the Tigers claimed their 5th consecutive league victory there last Saturday, coming away with a 2-0 victory after a complete performance. 
This Friday night City head to the capital on FA Cup duty as they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The pressure is off City and even the most loyal fan would struggle to see how we will be in the hat for the 6th round. Fingers crossed Nigel has a plan and we can cause a big upset. 
Next Tuesday nights trip to Middlesbrough is likely to receive much more focus from the management as the Tigers go in search of more valuable points to strengthen their league position. 
Here’s your update from the trust this week
HCST Board Election – 2018
Further to the notification relating to our re-scheduled Annual General Meeting, (now scheduled for Saturday March 10th), can we remind you that 6 Board positions will be available for election or re-election at the AGM. 
As a reminder, any fully paid up member aged 16 or over can be considered for nomination, provided they have been nominated by 2 other fully paid up members. It is recommended that any members potentially interested fully read and understand the Trust Election Policy, (available via our website), and pay particular attention to point 13-22 of the Policy.
We welcome applications from all Members fulfilling the criteria above, but as we have previously stated, we would particular be keen in any Member with an interest in assisting in producing our Weekly Newsletter and other general written media publications for the Trust.
The amended Election Nomination form can be downloaded here in Word format, and needs to be received by our Secretary by Saturday 24th February, 2018 (So you have plenty of time to consider applying).
Should any Member wish to receive further details of the role and activities as a Trust Director, then please drop an e-mail to secretary@hullcityst.com or come and discuss with one of the existing Board Members between 1pm – 2.30pm at the William Gemmell on a Saturday matchday.
Ryan Mason retires
This week we heard the sad news that Ryan Mason has announced his retirement from football.
The City midfielder, 26, suffered a fractured skull against Chelsea in 2017. He had been hoping to make his return to playing soon,but a recent CT scan showed the injury’s effects were more serious than had previously been realised.
HCST wish Ryan and his family all the best for the future, and are certain that there will be a football-releated role for him.
Hull City Ex Players Reunion
On Thursday 22nd March there will be a ‘Hull City Ex Players’ event in honour of the legend that is Chris Chilton
The event will take place at the New Walton Club, be hosted by Burnsy, and feature The Beautiful Couch. More details & tickets are available here.
Survey for Student’s Dissertation
We have contacted by a student at Nortumbria University who is doing a dissertation on the perception of BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) football managers in English football.
He is asking for fans to fill in an on-line survey to help him. You can find the survey here.
Development Review
After two heavy defeats the under 18 side showed their character to bounce back and register a 3-1 victory last Saturday against Crewe Alexandra at Bishop Burton. The City goals came from Matty Jacob, Dan Hawkins and Keane Lewis-Potter in the first half.  This Saturday they take on Huddersfield Town’s under 18 at the Canalside development at 11:00.

It has been a disappointing week for the under 23s in which they played well in two games and ended up losing them both. Last Friday their interest in the Premier League Cup was ended by Brighton & Hove Albion in a match that was notable for all three goals in the 0-3 defeat came from second half penalties.  Last Monday Sheffield United were the visitors in the league and came away with a 1-2 victory.  Both sides were evenly matched but the catalyst for The Blades was the second half introduction of full welsh international David Brooks who set up one goal and scored himself with the last kick of the match after performing an outrageous flick.  Liam Edwards was on the score sheet for The Tigers
On Monday afternoon the under 23 side travel to Sheffield Wednesday’s Middlewood training ground for a 14:00 kick off and then on Friday they head up to Sunderland for a 19:00 kick off at Epplewood Colliery ground.
Hull City Ladies
The Ladies have progressed to the semi-finals of the FA WPL Plate with a 4-0 victory over Chorley Ladies.
On Sunday (18th) the Ladies return to league action when they take on Bolton Wanderers.
Kick off is 2pm  at the Hull University playing ground on Inglemire Lane.
