Weekly News Update

Here is the weekly update of the Trust’s activity and stories on our website.
The last week has probably seen an end to City’s faint play off hopes. Firstly a defeat at Derby County could have been different if first half chances had been taken. Then a very disappointing second half saw City throw away a 2-0 halftime lead at home to strugglers Rotherham Utd.
The results leave the Tigers 7 points and 5 places off the top six which is most likely too much to do in just 14 games. At least a positive can be taken from City pulling away from the relegation zone which looked a very big ask only a couple of months ago.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

Blackpool closer to being Oyston-free
This week the sorry tale of the mis-management of Blackpool FC came one step closer to resolution with the appointment of a Receiver by the High Court.

The Receivers were appointed because of the Oystons failiure to pay £22M owing to former shareholder Valeri Belokon.

Blackpool fans, led by Blackpool Supporters Trust and the action group  Tangerine Knights have boycotted games & merchandise for many years in protest at the way the Oystons have run the club, under the campaign banner #NAPM (Not A Penny More).

All at HCST hope that the end is in sight for Blackpool fans, so that they can return to supporting the club that they love.

More details on the Blackpool situation can be found here on the BBC website.

Has the FA Cup been devalued by TV Money?
The re-scheduling of many FA Cup games for TV audiences (particularly obscure overseas locations) brings into question ‘the Magic of the Cup’.

An article (here) hilights the fact that only one third of the 3rd Round ties this year kicked off at the traditional time of 3pm on the Staurday.

This major change for this season is due to a new large 6-year contract which seems to benefit those involved ( The F.A. , the clubs) to the detrement of the fans (again).

HCST ‘Last Man Standing’ Competition.
Week 4 and 15 tipsters are left standing..

Please remember – No Premier League this week so it has to be FA Cup or Championship games and must be played on the Saturday.

Those of you who are playing should have received an email, if not contact Ian via the address on the website.

If you didn’t sign up this time – don’t worry, we will be running another competition after this one finishes!.

EFL / MIND Badges
The EFL and MIND have launched a campaign entitled ‘On Your Side’ to raise awareness of mental health issues.

Part of this campaign includes the sale of ‘On Your Side’ badges in the colours of all the 72 EPL teams.

Hull City badges are still avaiable and can be bought from the MIND on-Line Shophere.

More details of the campaign can be found here.

KCOM Move Impact Survey.
Football an Tomas Cresswell is asking fans help in completing a survey for his dissertation.

His dissertation is about the commercialisation of professional football, and is asking fans how significant the move to the KCOM Stadium has been in the success the club has enjoyed over the past 20 years

The survey can be completed here and will only take about 5 minutes.

Hull City Ladies
It was a Derby double last weekend as 24 hours after the mens defeat, the Tigresses took a real ‘mauling’ of their own last Sunday going down 7-2 away at Derby County Ladies.

The girls made a bright start to the game but  soon found themselves overrun by their hosts.

This Sunday looks an equally tricky match as   City are away at 3rd placed Sunderland although the Mackems promotion push has faultered a bit recently having drawn 2 and lost 1 of their previous 3 league games.

HCST Board Election – 2019
Further to the recent notification relating to our next Annual General Meeting on Saturday 2nd March, we are now able to confirm that 6 Board positions will be available for election or re-election at the AGM.

Nominations Close on Saturday 16th February, so apply now if you want to stand

Any fully paid up member aged 16 or over can be considered for nomination but will need to be nominated by 2 other fully paid up members. It is recommended that any members potentially interested fully read and understand the Trust Election Policy, (available via our website), and pay particular attention to points 13-22 of that Policy.

As you will be aware, 2018 proved to be a very busy and influential year for the Trust Board, which at times led to feedback generally positive, (and occasionally negative), but if you feel you have the desire and capabilities to enhance the Board and drive HCST to greater heights, then get involved.

We welcome applications from all Members fulfilling the criteria above and taking an active role in one of the many sub-groups we have in place working on our key areas of focus and development.

The Election Nomination form can be downloaded in either Word or PDF format,  and needs to be received by our Secretary by Saturday 16th February 2019

Should any Member wish to receive further details of the role and activities as a Trust Director, then please drop an e-mail to secretary@hullcityst.com or come and find us prior to any Hull City home game in the William Gemmell Social Club on Anlaby Road. (Details of all our meetings and activity can be found on our website. )

Funds available for Local Youth Football teams.
Do You (or someone you know) run a Hull Boys Sunday Football team or an East Riding Girls Team?

The collapse of the Wembley sale might result in no extra funds going to grass roots football, but don’t worry – funding is available locally.

Several years ago, the then Tigers Co-Operative, now Hull City Supporters Trust, donated £6,000 to support local youth football teams.

For more details of the scheme follow the link here.

There are still funds available, of up to £100 per team. All you need to do is complete the application form available here.

Weekly News Update

It was back to winning ways for City last week with a well-earned victory over Stoke City. The result sees The Tigers’ play off push get back on track ahead of another big game this weekend against Derby County. A win could lift City to one point outside the top six and City should travel with confidence backed by a decent away following.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

New Crest
City unvieled our new crest this week.

After a prolonged period of consultation and the findings of a select panel, we welcome the changes made by reintroducing the team name onto the crest and acknowledge the majority of public feedback from fans has been positive

Assem Allam Interview.
There has been much focus and debate in the interview broadcast by the BBC between David Burns and Assem Allam.

Fans will draw their own conclusions with regards to Dr Allams comments on failed bids and the current asking price for the Club.

It is disappointing he chose this interview to refer to an incident that occurred over 14 months ago involving our Chairman.

From our side this was dealt with internally with full support from Supporters Direct and the Football Supporters Federation as soon as the Club made an official complaint about this incident (some 6 months after the event) and we see no benefit in referring to it again.

A position of compromise remains on the table to the Club again endorsed by SD & FSF and acknowledged by the EFL

HCST ‘Last Man Standing’ Competition.
All 20 tipsters made it through this week!

Only two teams were selected –  Chelsea or Sheffield United – but as each week goes by, in theory it should get harder as many may have already used up their ‘big teams’.

Those of you who are playing should have received an email, if not contact Ian via the address on the website.

If you didn’t sign up this time – don’t worry, we will be running another competition after this one finishes!.

The survey can be found here and takes about 20 minutes to fill in, but everyone completing the survey will be entered into a prize draw for a chance to win a copy of FIFA 20 or pairs of tickets to various football games – so have a go.

Hull City Ladies
The Tigresses slump in form during 2019 continued last Sunday with a disappointing 0-1 home defeat to mid-table rivals Guiseley Vixens..

Manager Rachael Gay made her feelings know after the game and will be looking for a much improved performance from her team this week.

Bizarrely, like the men’s team the girls are away to Derby County this Sunday in what will be an equally tricky game.

Weekly News Update

A week after City’s winning streak was ended at Aston Villa, their unbeaten run also fell in a rather miserly fashion at Blackburn Rovers. The Tigers were second best throughout the game and ended up with a deserved 3-0 defeat in performance that would not have looked out of place in the first quarter of the season.

Hopefully it was just a blip, but City need to get back on track this weekend against Stoke City to avoid the gap to the top six getting any wider if they really do have play off ambitions. Stoke have been disappointing on their return to the Championship and sit two points and two places behind City. The game will also see the return of ex-tiger Sam Clucas who we are sure will receive a warm welcome back.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

Hull City Ladies
The Tigresses finally returned to league action last Sunday but went down to a 0-1 defeat to Fylde in a tight game of few chances.

The girls were convinced they had grabbed a point until a late goal was controversially disallowed by the referee. (Unfortunately VAR is not available in the Women’s leagues!).

This Sunday the Tigresses have a re-arranged home league fixture against Guiseley Vixens. (Usual 2pm kick off time at the Hull University Sports Ground on Inglemire Lane).Guiseley are 1 place and 2 points below City in the table but have 4 games in hand so it’s a chance for our girls to open up a bit of a gap on their mid-table rivals.Don’t forget that kids get in free and adult Trust members get a 20% discount on production of their membership card.

Weekly News Update

It wasn’t to be seven straight victories as Aston Villa came from behind to stop the Hull City juggernaut last Saturday. The tigers lead 2-0 thanks to an accomplished first half performance but had to settle for a point after a spirited Aston Villa fight back. A point away from home at a ground City notoriously get little from isn’t the end of the world and there is still the unbeaten run to protect.

How City hit back this weekend is key as they face fellow play-off hopefulls Blackburn Rovers. A win and the momentum is maintained but a defeat could see a probably unbridgeable gap form between the top six. The tigers are certainly capable of winning and will be boosted by the addition of Marc Pugh who by all reports is a shrewd addition.

Hull City Ladies
After a disappointing start to 2019 with 2 cup exits, the Tigresses finally return to league action for the first time since the end of November this weekend.

The girls are away at Fylde on Sunday, who are 1 place but 4 points above City in the league. The teams know each other well having gained promotion together last season so it should be a game the Tigresses look to get a positive result from and get their season back on track.

Weekly News Update

City made it six wins from six in the league with another mauling of a Yorkshire rival last weekend, Sheffield Wednesday the latest club to be swept aside by a rampant City outfit.

To score three goals is always good, the clean sheet was a big positive but perhaps the most impressive part of the victory was the 90 minute performance. City dominated from start to finish which is something seldom seen in such a competitive division.

This Saturday the Tigers head to Aston Villa in what will be a very tough test. Villa will be desperate to get back on track having been in indifferent form recently, seeing their play off push stall a little and with City full of confidence it points towards an entertaining game. Let’s hope it’s a magnificent seventh victory!

HCST / Tigers Co-op 20th Anniversary
This year marks 20 years since the the formation of Tigers Cooperative – the forerunner of HCST.

At 20 years old we are amongst the oldest Supporters Trusts in the country, and probably the oldest in the top two divisions…

We will be organising events throughout the year leading up to our actual 20th Anniversary in December 2019 – watch out for further announcements.

FSF Away Fans Survey 2018/19
The Football Supporters Federation (FSF) are running their annual survey of the experience of fans who attend away games.

The survey can be found here and should take only a few minutes to fill in.

Development Review
Last Friday afternoon the under 23 side travelled down to Nottingham Forest and drew 1-1.

Tom Powell scored in the first half, but Forest managed to peg back late in the second.  This afternoon they are in action again, this time against Barnsley.

The under 18 side took on Wigan Athletic in the FA Youth cup at the KCOM last Saturday following the first team match against Sheffield Wednesday.  We were pleased to see the number of fans stayed behind to watch a match of conflicting fortunes.

The Tigers were impressive in the first half and missed a few opportunities to score only for The Latics to score twice in the final ten minutes of the half.  The half-time chat seemed to rouse them, and Keane Lewis-Potter scored a lovely goal to get them back in the tie.  The Latics responded with three more goals before Rob Guilfoyle scored one back, only for them to score a 6th and see off the tie 2-6.

Hull City Ladies
The Tigresses suffered a successive weekend of cup knockout last Sunday as a disappointing display saw them go down 3-1 at Bolton in the Women’s League Cup after extra time, despite taking a 2nd half lead.

The Ladies have a blank weekend this week before returning to league action away at Fylde on January 27th.

For more articles on The Ladies check out the excellent Fanatic Hull website.

HCST Board Election – 2019
Further to the recent notification relating to our next Annual General Meeting on Saturday 2nd March, we are now able to confirm that 6 Board positions will be available for election or re-election at the AGM.

The Election Nomination form can be downloaded in either Word or PDF format,  and needs to be received by our Secretary by Saturday 16th February 2019  (So you have plenty of time to consider applying).

Should any Member wish to receive further details of the role and activities as a Trust Director, then please drop an e-mail to secretary@hullcityst.com or come and find us prior to any Hull City home game in the William Gemmell Social Club on Anlaby Road. (Details of all our meetings and activity can be found on our website. )

HCST’s Partners of the Week
In this week’s Partner of the Week section, we have an in-focus look at two HCST partners – Hull & East Yorkshire Mind & Rob McFadyen Advanced Driving Instructor.

Our first partner of the week is Hull and East Yorkshire Mind .

Hull and East Yorkshire Mind is a local mental health charity, working so that everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.

The impact of mental illness can be devastating. Not only for those directly affected but also their families, friends, colleagues and loved ones.

Hull and East Yorkshire Mind helps people improve their mental health. They work with individuals to support them in a way that works for them- building confidence and social networks, helping people establish a safe place to live and call home, helping people to find hope and to recover.

They also work to prevent mental ill health through education and prevention work, and we campaign to challenge the stigma and discrimination that sometimes occurs with mental health problems.

Mind have linked with the English Football League to promote awareness about mental health, and HCST have partnered with the Hull and East Yorkshire branch to tie in with that.

More information about Hull and East Yorkshire Mind can be found on theirwebsite They are also active on Facebook & Twitter.

Weekly News Update

Well there’s always next year… A much changed City side slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Millwall in the FA Cup last weekend. For a while it looked like City may continue their impressive form whilst leading through Jon Toral. However, two quick fire goals late on dashed those hopes and the Tigers fell at the first hurdle. The cup obviously is not top priority for the club, especially when there is a sniff of the play offs and hopefully that defeat doesn’t provide any mental setback.

This weekend Sheffield Wednesday visit the KCOM as City look to make it six straight league wins. The Owls are unbeaten in their last four league fixtures so it will be by no means an easy game with the players looking to impress former City manager Steve Bruce before he takes full charge.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

City pair win Monthly Awards!
Nigel Adkins and Jarrod Bowen have won the Championship Manager of the Month & Player of the Month awards for December.

Nigel steered the team to take 16 out of the 18 points available, including 3 points at league leaders Leeds United.

Jarrod scored 6 goals in December, with match-winning braces against Queens Park Rangers, Swansea City and Leeds United.

The Trust congratulate the pair on their well-deserved recognition.

North Ferriby United Ground Move Rejected
The Northern Premier League (NPL) have rejected the application by the owners of North Ferriby United to relocate the club.

The owners had wanted to relocate the club to Dunswell Park and also rename it to ‘East Hull’.

The NPL have also indicated to the FA that, as a stakeholder, they can also not support the application for a change of name.

The decision by the NPL can be challenged by an appeal to the FA, and it is understood that the owners plan to do that.

The NPL statement on the issue can be read here.

Male Suicide TV Interview
HCST Chairman Geoff Bielby discusses Male Suicide in an interview with Now TV Humber.

Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50, who make up the majority of football supporters.

Geoff’s personal experience with a close family member has spurred him on to find ways which the Trust can engage with local groups such as HeyMIND and DFER to help.

Remember, It’s always good to talk

The full interview can be seen here on the Now TV Humber Facebook page.

Development Review
Last weekend started well as the under 18 side took on a Bolton Wanderers side at Bishop Burton and emulated the first team by scoring six.

The City goals came from Rob Guilfoyle (3), Dan Hawkins, Tommy Best and Harry Wood in a comprehensive 6-2 victory.

The U18’s are next in action at the KCOM on Saturday, when they take on Wigan Athletic in the FA Youth Cup, following the first team’s game against Sheffield Wednesday.  This is a great opportunity to see the stars of tomorrow in action and we hope many of you will stay behind to cheer them on.

On Monday the under 23 side were at home against Leeds United at the Roy West Centre.  The game didn’t go their way and despite a goal from Lewis Ritson they went down to a 1-3 defeat (or mauling according to the Leeds United Twitter account!)  By the time you read this update they will have also played away at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest (kick off 14:00).

Hull City Ladies
The Tigresses went down to a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to AFC Wimbledon in the Women’s FA Cup round 3 tie last weekend that was watched by one of their biggest crowds of the season.

City looked rusty after a month of inactivity and the Dons proved worthy winners with their 2nd half display.

This Sunday, they will be hoping for better fortune in their rescheduled Womens League Cup tie away at Bolton Wanderers. It’s a match City are capable of winning to hopefully keep their other cup quest alive.

For more articles on The Ladies check out the excellent Fanatic Hull website.

FIRST WEEK 19TH JANUARY 2019!

Weekly News Update

Happy New Year to all our members and all the Hull City AFC supporters around the World. We hope you all enjoyed the festive break which was made all the more special by the Tigers!

Four wins from four have seen City shoot  up the table to be in a strong position for dare we say it… a play off challenge? That’s perhaps a little optimistic given how recent transfer windows have gone and the ongoing ownership situation however with City now 100/1 to go down things are certainly feeling a lot more positive.

Among the four victories there was the small matter of a 2-0 ‘mauling’ away at table toppers Leeds Utd as well as a 6-0 demolition of Bolton Wanderers. City are playing some really good football currently and look a different side from the one that stumbled through the first quarter of the season. Well done to all involved and particularly Nigel Adkins.

The Tigers put their league assault on hold this weekend with a trip to Millwall in the FA Cup. It’s safe to say cup glory is not priority this year however it does bring up the long running dilemma for the manager over whether to keep a winning team or rest some players. What is for certain is that the tie is definitely winnable for a City team in this form.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

FSF Away Fans Survey 2018

The survey can be found here and should take only a few minutes to fill in.

Coops Returns!
It was great  to see long time City fan Chris Cooper  and his wife Nicki attending the Boxing Day fixture at Preston.

Chris – (known to all as ‘Coops’) –  has made a remarkable recovery from a very serious illness and set himself a goal to make the Preston match. The team did him proud with a great three points which will no doubt speed Coops recovery further.

Development Review
The under 18 side returns from their short winter break on Saturday when they take on Bolton Wanderers at Bishop Burton in a match that kick off at the slightly later time of 12:00.

Likewise, theunder 23 side returns to action on Monday evening when they take on Leeds United at the Roy WestCentre in a 19:00 kick off. We hope that some of you will turn up and give your support.
Hull City Ladies
The Tigresses kick off their action in 2019 with a SSE Women’s FA Cup 3rd round tie at home to AFC Wimbledon.

The venue is the Hull University Sports Ground on Inglemire Lane but please note an earlier kick off time of 1pm

So if Millwall is too far for you to travel on Sunday afternoon, get your cup fix by cheering the girls on.

Weekly News Update

City continued their recent good form with a hard fought point down at the Den last Saturday. The performance was not to the same standard of the previous weeks victory in London however it is a positive City didn’t give up after going behind in the second half.

This weekend the Tigers welcome Brentford to the KCOM. The Bees have lost 7 of their last 9 in the league and represent a perfect opportunity for City to get back to winning ways on home turf.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

Hull City Foodbank Donations Appeal
The Club, in conjunction with Hull Foodbanks and The Trussell Trust are supporting ‘The Together Project’ to help those facing hunger at this festive time.

Amongst other events, the Club will be holding a ‘Food Drop’ in the Dugout Bar ahead of the next 2 home games against Brentford (Saturday 15th December) and Swansea City (Saturday 22nd December), with supporters invited to donate key items which will go towards helping those in need.

More details of the scheme can be found here on the club website, paying particular attention to which foodstuffs are suitable for donation.

So if you are able to help, the next time you are in the supermarket please add a couple of extra items to your shop for those in need at this time of year.

Attention Programme Collectors!
City programme collector @Tiger Programmes is looking for ONE final programme to complete his collection …

If you do have a copy of this programme to sell, (or know ove someone who might have one). please contact @Tiger Programmes on Twitter here, or alternatively contact us here and we will pass on your details.

The Hull Daily Mail have done an article on HCST member  Martin Batchelor’s (the man behind @Tiger Programmes) quest – you can read it here.

Incedentally we lost 2-1 in that Division 3 (North)  game, Stevens WJ was the scorer for City, in front of a crowd of 8809 at Field Mill. (Thanks to the excellent Tigerbasewebsite for the details)

Late Breaking News – Martin has made contact with someone who has the missing programme & will be meeting them prior to the Brentford game tomorrow!

“The views of the fans are neither wanted nor will be listened to…”
Port Vale Supporters Club Chairman gives his views on the recent EFL “Fans Forum” to discuss the Checktrade Trophy.

The Checktrade Trophy, (which City might be competing in next season if things go badly), pits the 48 League 1 & 2 sides against 16 under-21 sides from Premier League and EFL Championship clubs, and has been widely criticised by fans who have shown their lack of interest in it by voting with their feet…

More on the meeting can be found here. – The rhetorical question “When is a Fans Forum not a Fans Forum? – When its a PR exercise…” will ring true with City supporters at the moment.

If you want to watch the event (all 2 hrs 04 mins of it) you can follow this link. (skip to approx. 39 mins to see the start).

16 Years gone…
Today (14th December) marks the 16th Anniversary of Citys last game at Boothferry Park.

The game tipified the ups & downs seen by fans at ‘Fer Ark’ – City lost a Division 3 game 1-0  against Darlington in front of a crowd of (allegedly) 14,162.

You can read a report on the game here on the excellent TigerChat website.

Development Review
The under 18 side went into the short winter break on the back of a defeat to Burnley last Saturday.

Louis Beckett scored an equaliser in the first half, but Burnley scored 2 more to end up 1-3 winners at Bishop Burton.

On Monday the under 23 side bolstered by Long, Stewart and Keane took on Bolton Wanderers, who had Stephen Ireland in their midfield, at the Roy West Centre.  A sticky surface didn’t help passing football, but they were always in control and scored 2 very nicely worked goals which were finished off by Keane Lewis-Potter to secure a 2-0 victory.  Their final game before the winter break is on Monday at Sheffield Wednesday in a 13:00 kick off.

Weekly News Update

City produced somewhat of a shock result last Saturday against QPR. An accomplished attacking performance, albeit with a generous defence, saw the Tigers come away from Loftus Road with a 3-2 victory. The result lifts City out of the relegation zone which may provide a positive mental boost to the players.

This weekend City head to FA Cup 3rd round opponents Millwall who themselves are on a bad run of form. Given last weeks victory in London Nigel Adkins should be confident of getting something from the game. Dare we dream for back-to-back away wins? It would be typical of City’s form this year for them to follow up a good win with a poor performance, but let’s hope that is not the case this weekend.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

Second Anniversary of HCST Billboard Campaign.
It is 2 years ago this week since the unveiling of our billboard showing the massive increase in child pricing at City.

The billboard hilighted the greater than 10x increase in Season Pass prices for children from 2013 to 2016.

Although prices have reduced with our relegation from the Premier League, the cheapest Season Pass for a child is almost 5x the 2013 figure, and is in some cases over 8x.

We again urge the club to bring back genuine concessions to preserve the future fanbase.

More details of the scheme can be found here on the club website, paying particular attention to which foodstuffs are suitable for donation.

Development Review
It’s been an up and down week for the young Tigers, starting with 2-1 defeats but ending with a 2-1 cup victory.

Last Friday the under 23 side travelled down to South Wales to take on Category 1 side Swansea City.  Billy Chadwick was on the score sheet, but it was not enough to peg back 2 first half goals in what was a tight 2-1 defeat.  They are next in action on Monday evening when they take on Bolton Wanderers at the Roy West Centre.  Kick off is 19:00 and we hope card holders will go down to support the team.

The under 18 side also started the week on the road, this time the much shorter trip to take on Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday.  A second half goal from Rob Guilfoyle proved only to be a late consolation as the game ended 2-1 after Wednesday scored 2 in the first half.  The team did not dwell on the result though as they were in action at the KCOM stadium on Wednesday evening when they took on Cardiff City in the FA Youth Cup.  They got off to a poor start conceding in the opening minutes, but soon rallied and just before the break Keane Lewis-Potter evened the score.  In the second half Rob Guilfoyle scored the second and they managed to see the game out for a 2-1 victory.

The under 18 side is in action again tomorrow (Saturday)  when they take on Burnley at Bishop Burton College.  Please note this is a 12:00 kick off.

Hull City Ladies
The Tigresses rounded off 2018 with an emphatic 5-0 victory away at Long Eaton United in the FA Women’s Cup.

City showed some clinical finishing against their spirited opponents and have been rewarded with a home game in the next round against AFC Wimbledon Ladies on January 6th.

This weekend’s League Cup tie away at Bolton Wanderers Ladies needs to be rescheduled as the Trotters have to play their WFA Cup match that was postponed last Sunday. So the Tigresses now have a break until they return to cup action in the New Year.

Weekly News Update

It was a pair of mixed results for City in their home double-header. Firstly a 2-0 defeat to a decent Nottingham Forest side with more defensive mishaps was a disappointing performance and result given the Tigers’ recent good form.

However City upped their game for the visit of free scoring, top of the table Norwich City on Tuesday with a gritty performance to gain a creditable draw in appalling conditions. It was a sad site in the stadium however with swathes or empty seats evidence of the rot the club finds itself in.

Next up for City is a trip to Loftus Road to face QPR . The R’s have only lost one of their last 9 matches so will provide a tough test for City who will be aiming to move out of the relegation zone

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

ROY FINCH.
The Trust has been contacted this week by a gentleman named Graham Finch, whose father Roy, made 3 guest appearances for City in 1944.

Following some detective work by some of the Trust Board, using the excellent resources of TigerBase, The Hull City AFC Database Project, we not only discovered which games Roy played in but also that he scored 2 goals in the process.

Graham is very keen to purchase programmes for those games which were against Leeds United (home) on 14/10/1944, Newcastle United (home), on 11/11/1944 and finally Gateshead (away) on 25/11/1944.

So if you’re a programme collector, (or know someone who is), and have these  programmes in your collection, then please cemail us here and we’ll forward your details on to Graham.

Development Review
It’s been a quiet week for the Development squad after the under 23 side’s match with Barnsley fell foul of the weather last Friday.

The under 18’s match against Crewe Alexandra did go ahead at Bishop Burton.  The result was the same as the under 23’s the previous Monday, a 2-3 defeat with Keane Lewis-Potter scoring both the City goals.

The week ahead is busy though for the under 18 side which travels to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday for a league game (KO 11:30) and then on Wednesday take on Cardiff City under 18s in the third round of the FA Youth Cup.  This game is being held at the KCOM with kick off scheduled for 19:00 and tickets for this game are being sold for £3 at the Tiger Leisure outlets.

It’s cup action too for the under 23 side who face the long trek to Swansea City today (Friday)  in the Premier League Cup.  This match is at Landore Training Ground and is scheduled to kick off at 19:00.

Hull City Ladies
Last Sunday saw the Tigresses suffer a 2nd successive league defeat, losing 1-4 away at a much more experienced Stoke City Ladies team.

This Sunday, the girls are on their travels again but this time away at Long Eaton United in the 2nd round of the Women’s FA Cup.

City play in a higher league level than their opponents so will be confident of a confidence boosting win to continue their cup run.

Weekly News Update

The international break, albeit thoroughly enjoyable from and England perspective, probably came at the wrong time for City with the Tigers enjoying their best form of the season taking 7 points from the last 9 available. Hopefully their momentum won’t be disrupted when back in domestic action this weekend.

It’s a home double header against teams with lofty ambitions. Firstly big spending Nottingham Forest are in town before surprise league leaders Norwich City visit the KCOM on Tuesday night. It will be a pair of tough fixtures for City however after toppling West Brom in their last home game they should be confident of getting something out of both matches.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

HCST Chairman elected to the National Council of new UFSO.
On Thursday 22nd Trust Chairman Geoff Bielby was confirmed as Championship representative on the National Council of the new Unified Footbal Supporters Organisation.

The two existing organisations, (The Football Supporters Federation and Supporters Direct ) were formally merged into the new organisation at an at an Extraordinary General Meeting held in London, which was attended by Geoff and Trust Board member Graham Cannon on behalf of the HCST.

More details can be found here.

First Anniversary of the Owners engagement with Fans
One year ago yesterday (22nd), Assem & Ehab Allam attended the Supporters Committee for the first time.

The extra meeting was announced by Vice-Chairman Ehab Allam in an open letter to supporters in an attempt to reconcile differences which led to protests at the match against Nottingham Forest.

The meeting lasted three and a half hours and no topic was excluded. The full minutes are available here.

It is a sad situation that one year on, no real progress has been made on the core issues of concern to fans, (Concessionary Pricing, Supporter Engagement), in fact with falling crowds, a reduction in Supporters Committee meetings and the exclusion of HCST, the situation is actually going backwards.

Meanwhile in the modern world yesterday (22nd) saw Supporters Groups merge to form a Unified voice, and last night at The Football Business Awards, clubs like Fulham Portsmouth and WBA were being celebrated for the work they are doing with their Supporters Trusts and Fans Groups.

The Trust are always available to engage in meaningful dialogue with whoever are the owners of the club…

Development Review
Monday evening saw the under 23 side in action at the Roy West Centre when they took on Crewe Alexandra in the Professional Development League.

Conditions were terrible with wind and rain, as those spectators who braved the elements will testify, but this didn’t stop some entertaining football being played.

They went into the half time break leading 1-0, thanks to a penalty converted by Robbie McKenzie, and seemingly in control.  The second half saw them concede 3 goals in a 20 minute spell and whilst a late goal from Ahmed Salam led to a tense final few minutes but the game finished 2-3.

The under 23 side travel to Barnsley this afternoon (23rd) for a 14:00 kick off and the under 18 side are in action at Bishop Burton tomorrow when they take on Crewe Alexandra in an 11:30 kick off.

Hull City Ladies
City Ladies went down to a disappointing 1-3 home defeat to Middlesbrough Ladies last Sunday.

The visitors were very clinical with their finishing and leapfrogged above City in the league table as a result.

This Sunday, the Tigresses have an opportunity to bounce back and close the gap on a mid-table rival with an away trip at Stoke. An improved performance is needed to come back with a positive result but the girls have shown character in abundance this season and will be confident of doing so.

Weekly News Update

City continued their recent good form with an eventful 3-3 draw at St Andrews last weekend against Birmingham City.

The Tigers found themselves 2-0 down at half time, courtesy of some horror defending which was a bit late for Halloween. However, a spirited second half performance saw City lead 3-2 going into the final few minutes of the game thanks to two goals from the inform Fraizer Campbell and a spectacular free kick from Kamil Grosicki.

However, unfortunately City defensive blunders hadn’t finished for the day and another mistake saw Birmingham snatch a point late on. At 2-0 down it was a point gained however there will have been some what ifs we are sure amongst the City players on the coach back.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

HCST Board Meeting.

Development Review
It has been a busy and rewarding week for the Development sides.

Last Saturday the under 18 side took on Nottingham Forrest at Bishop Burton.  Thanks to goals from Jacob Greaves and Dan Hawkins they ended up 2-1 winners.

Monday evening saw the under 23 side in action against Oxford United in the Premier League Cup at the Roy West Centre.  First teamer Kevin Stewart had a much-needed run out in what ended a 2-1 victory thanks to a goal in each half by the in-form Keane Lewis-Potter.  They are in action at the Roy West centre again this Monday evening when they take on Crewe Alexandre in the Professional Development League.

On Thursday night a combined Development Side begin their defence of the East Riding Senior Cup against Humber Premier League side Hessle Rangers at Bishop Burton.  Hessle Rangers did well to limit them to a single first half goal from Jacob Greaves.  In the second half City took control early on with goals from Callum Smith, Tom Powell (2) and Dan Hawkins resulting in a comfortable 5-0 victory.

Hull City Ladies
The Tigresses clinched a hard fought 4-2 victory at home to Sheffield last weekend and moved up to a comfortable 7th place in the league table.

This Sunday, our Ladies are at home against a Middlesbrough team just 2 points behind City in the table with a game in hand.

As usual, kick off time is 2pm at the Hull University Sports Ground on Inglemire Lane.So if you’re at a loose end during the international break then get yourself along and support the girls.

A season which was threatening to run away from City before the Christmas lights had even been turned on has been given an injection of life in the last two weeks.

Following up their win over Bolton, the Tigers defeated automatic promotion hopefuls West Brom at the KCOM. It was a thoroughly deserved victory boasting a second successive clean sheet and hopefully a boost to the players confidence.

City head to Birmingham City this weekend. The hosts had been in excellent form up until last weekend and the opportunity is there for the Tigers to take advantage of that defeat. That said, we’re sure Nigel Adkins would be happy with a point to keep the recently built momentum going.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

HCST Chairman attends SD England & Wales Football Council.
On Thursday (8th) Trust Chairman Geoff Bielby attended the England & Wales Football Council meeting of Supporters Direct in his role as an EWF Councillor.

The minutes of this meeting will be made available in a future newsletter.

HCST Chairman to attend FSF/EFL Supporters Dialogue Meeting.
HCST Chairman Geoff Bielby will be attending the FSF/EFL Supporters Dialogue Meeting  on Wednesday (14th) next week in London.

Geoff will be joined by a number of Supporters Trust representatives, as well as FA Supporters Committee Members Malcolm Clarke, Chairman of FSF, and Ashley Brown, Chief Executive of Supporters Direct.

One of the issues which will be brought up by the FSF to the EFL will be the exclusion of HCST from the recent Supporters Committee Meeting.

The Football Supporters Federation (FSF) reacted to the issue saying: “Hull City’s exclusion of a democratic fan group goes against the guidelines set out by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) on ‘structured dialogue’ which were adopted into the EFL rulebook.”

The full details of the FSF statement can be read here.

We will report the minutes of the meeting in a future newsletter.

Incedentally, the club have only this week – some 10 days after the meeting – contacted those people who failed in their application to be on the Supporters Committee…

Petition: Stop the North Ferriby United Move/Rename.
As you may know the owners of North Ferriby United are trying to rename the club and move it to Dunswell.

A petition to the FA to stop this has been started, and a time of publication has received over 8,000 signatures. The petition can be found here.

We urge our members to sign – it takes only 30 seconds to do so.

Supporters Direct have written an article on the issue entitled “North Ferriby United AFC – What’s in a name?” you can read the article here. – Hull City supporters should particularly know how important your club’s name is…

North Ferriby fans have also launched a survey to allow fans to give their view on the issue. The survey can be filled in here.

If you want any more information (or would like to offer your assistance) the campaign can be contacted here by email or on Twitter.

The issue was discussed on Hull Kingston Radio’s NFU Fans Forum Program – you can listen here.

Good Luck!

New Combined Supporters Organization
As you will probably know, the two current supporters Organisations, the Football Supporters Federation & Supporters Direct are planning to merge.

The new organisation – provisionally to be called The Unified Football Supporters’ Organisation (UFSO) – are calling for nominations to the new National Council from both Afilliated (Supporters Trusts) and Non-Affiliated (individuals & Associate organisations).

The National Council will be elected at an Extraordinary General Meeting of the UFSO in London on 22nd November.

HCST Chairman Geoff Bielby is standing for election to the Championship Clubs section of the National Council – We wish him luck

More details can be found on the FSF & SD Websites.

Development Review
Last Saturday was not the best of days for the development sides.

At lunchtime the under 18 took on Bolton Wanderers but lost 1-0.  Then after the first team’s victory against West Brom the under 23 side took on Nottingham Forest at the KCOM.  Once again, a strong side was selected with Long, Mazuch, Dicko and Milinković all starting.

They didn’t all finish though as Dicko went off injured on  19 minutes and then Milinković was sent off following a foul when he had words with the referee.  In the end they went down 0-4.

Tomorrow it’s the turn of the under 18s to take on Nottingham Forest at Bishop Burton with kick off scheduled for 11:00.

Hull City Ladies
Hull City Ladies enjoyed a comfortable 3-1 away win at struggling Bradford City last weekend to strengthen their mid-table position.

After a couple of weeks on the road, the Tigresses return to a home match this Sunday against Sheffield. City are 4 points clear of their Yorkshire rivals so a win will really open the gap on the teams struggling at the wrong end of the table.

Kick off is the usual time of 2pm at the Hull University Sports Ground on Inglemire Lane.Don’t forget, kids get in free and adult HCST members receive a 20% discount on the £4 admission price.

Good luck girls!

Weekly News Update

City ended their seven match winless run with a hard fought 1-0 victory away at Bolton Wanderers last Saturday, Frazier Campbell scoring the only goal of the game. The result leaves city 23rd and two points from safety.

The leagues top scorers West Brom are the visitors to the KCOM this Saturday who will be looking to get back on track after a few disappointing results. The Tigers cannot afford to come away from the game with nothing however a point would not be a bad return.

Here’s your update from the trust in what’s been a rather busy week…

HCST Statement – Supporters Committee Meeting
The Trust Board issued a statement this week explaining our non-attendance at last Mondays Supporters Committee Meeting

You can read the full statement here.

HCST Secretary Richard Mathers gave further background to the issue on The Andy Comfort show on BBC Radio Humberside on Tuesday (30th October). You can listen here (from about 2hrs 47 mins in)

The FSF also stated that they will be taking this issue up directly with senior EFL officials at one of their regular meetings on November 14th. The FSF will also be bringing the case to the attention of DCMS.

The full details of the FSF statement can be read here.

HCST Chairman Geoff Bielby has been asked by the FSF to attend the FSF/EFL meeting this month.

Geoff will be joined by a number of Supporters Trust representatives, as well as FA Supporters Committee Members Malcolm Clarke, Chairman of FSF, and Tom Greatorex, Chairman of Supporters Direct.

Happy Birthday to The Football Association
Last Friday was the 155th Annivesary of the founding of the Football Association.

On the 26th October 1863 a meeting was held at the Freemasons Tavern in London to try and create an agreed set of rules for Association Football, based largely on the work of Hull-born Ebeneezer Cobb Morley, who became the FA’s first Secretary.

(This may come as a shock to those who think football was invented by Sky in 1992)

There is an on-going campaign to have the achievements of Ebeneezer recognised by erecting a statue of him in his home town. More details can be found here on Twitter.

Development Review
Last Saturday the under 18 side took on Sheffield United at Bishop Burton.

Dan Hawkin’s scored in the second half but this was not enough to peg back the two goals conceded in the first half.  On Saturday they travel over the Pennines to Bolton to take on the Wanderers in a 12:00 kick off.

On Monday a more experienced under 23 side than of late travelled to Thorp Arch to take on Leeds United.  Despite Long, Mazuch, Stewart and Keane all being in the starting line up they were to go down 2-1 with Will Keane scoring.

On Saturday they take on Nottingham Forest at the KCOM after the first team game against West Brom and Academy Manager Jon Beale is encouraging as many Hull City fans as possible to stay behind and support the lads.

Hull City Ladies
The Tigresses went down to a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Guiseley Vixens last Sunday who were full value for their victory.

This Sunday, our Ladies are on their travels again at bottom of the table Bradford City. The hosts have lost all 8 of their league games this season, so Rachel Guys team will be confident of bouncing back with 3 points from the game.

Statement – Hull City Supporters Committee

The Hull City Supporters Trust (HCST) Board would like to explain to Trust members and the wider Hull City fan base the reason behind our non-representation at the Supporters Committee meeting being hosted by Hull City AFC on Monday 29th October, despite having had Director attendance at every previous meeting.

In May 2018, the majority of the HCST Board members received a direct e-mail from a Club employee that outlined several allegations against a Senior HCST Board member, and suggested the individual was in breach of the Trust Board Membership & Conduct Policy. (Accessible at www.hullcitysupporterstrust.com)

A meeting was arranged in June between 2 Senior Club officials and 2 members of the HCST Board, during which the details of the Club’s concerns was discussed and even though the HCST representatives did not agree with the allegations documented, as way of compromise for an undefined period of time, it was suggested that the Senior HCST Board member named should not represent HCST with matters directly hosted by the Club.

A separate internal investigation was conducted by relevant members of the HCST Board which established there was ‘no case to answer’ by the Senior Board Member named. Details of the allegations and subsequent investigation were forwarded to representatives of Supporters Direct, (of which HCST are a full member), who confirmed that the HCST Board findings were correct, based on the evidence provided.

In an attempt to find a suitable solution to both parties, a separate channel of communication was established directly between a Senior Club Official and Richard Mathers, (HCST Secretary), but despite several calls and e-mail exchanges, the Club have refused the offer of compromise by HCST to enable representation by other Trust Directors and/or Secretary and have insisted that the Senior HCST Board member was removed from their role.

Eventually an e-mail was received by HCST from a Senior Club Official on August 17th, which included an attached document, (dated August 15th and signed ‘For and Behalf of Hull City’), that stated the Club would no longer continue in ‘formal dialogue’ with HCST unless the Trust Board ‘reconsidered its position’.

The matter was escalated by HCST to senior management of the Football Supporters Federation, (FSF), Supporters Direct, (SD), and the English Football League, (EFL), all of whom have recognised the efforts made by HCST find a solution to the issue and further that the compromise offer was fair and balanced.

HCST have twice raised documented concerns with the Club on various matters affecting or on behalf of Trust Members and Hull City fans on August 15th, (2 days prior to the Club retracting formal contact), and also on 6th September.

Unfortunately, the Club have failed to acknowledge or reply to these concerns, both of which have been shared with the national organisations named above.

HCST were informed by several sources almost 3 weeks ago that e-mails had been sent out by the Club to supporter groups/individuals who have been invited to attend the Supporters Committee meeting on Monday 29th October.

Unsurprisingly, HCST have not received such an e-mail, despite being the largest membership supporter’s organisation connected to Hull City AFC and also the most proactive representatives at the 2017/18 Supporters Committee meetings.

A further phone call was made to a Senior Club Official as recently as Thursday 25th October to re-consider the compromise offered for HCST representation, but this was again declined, with a reiteration that the Senior HCST Director needed to be removed from their role for the Club to formally engage with the Trust again.

It is noted that the Club have stated that only 2 Supporters Committee meetings will take place during the 2018/19 season, (despite having arranged 4 last season), along with a newly formed committee of stand representatives, both of which go against the recommendations made by the Football Supporters Federation in their meeting with the Club in June.

It is hard therefore, not to conclude that this is a continued and deliberate delaying tactic by the Club to avoid meaningful dialogue on some of the major issues that have upset thousands of Hull City supporters in recent years, which is increasingly evident by the declining attendance figures at home matches.

Whilst disappointed with the current stance taken by the club, we wish to remind our members, (and the wider Hull City fan base), that HCST is an independent organisation, fully affiliated to both the FSF and SD, (of which we are grateful for their guidance and feedback in recent months), and cannot allow the Club to dictate its Board structure and operation.

We are hopeful that the forthcoming Supporters Committee meetings prove to be more productive to the newly elected attendees than was evident from the meetings last season, and result in genuine actions and resolutions of the numerous, well documented issues that continue to affect Hull City supporters.

Finally, HCST look forward to working positively with any new, responsible owners at the Club and remain committed to representing Trust Members and the wider Hull City fan base in the near and long term future.
