Weekly News Update

After the international break it’s back to domestic duties this weekend and a trip for the Tigers to the almost certain to be relegated Ipswich Town.

The Tractor boys have won only two home league games all season so do provide City with an opportunity to end their recent poor run of form away from home. A defeat and any faint play off hopes that still remain will have well and truly vanished.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

Starman
The Trust wish to congratulate Jarrod Bowen in being named in the EFL Championship Team of the Season…

Jarrod has scored 21 goals in 37 starts in the Championship, including the current record-breaking run of scoring in eight consecutive home games, and becomes only the 26th player in the Club’s history to achieve 20 league goals in a season.

All 72 EFL managers were invited to vote for their players of the season, with votes compiled for the Championship, League One and League Two Teams of the Season.

The overall EFL Team of the Season will be announced at the EFL Awards on Sunday 7th April at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane.

Good Luck for that Jarrod!

HCST ‘Kids for a Quid’
One of the proposals passed at the recent AGM was that junior members will now only pay £1 for Membership.

Previously junior (non-voting) members had paid an annual fee £2, now it will be a ‘one-off’ payment of £1 for junior membership until they reach their 16th birthday

The aim of the proposal was to encourage more engagement with a supporter organisation connected to the club, to retain awareness and interest during a period when some families cannot afford to take children to home matches due to the club’s current pricing model that does not cater for concessionary age groups.

So, if you have children (or grandchildren) who aren’t junior members, or know of anyone who does, sign them up online here or alternatively download a paper application form here.

Book Launch
Keep the evening of Saturday May 4th free….

That date’s been set for an event in Hull including past players and staff who’ve contributed to Richard Gardhams New book “The Decade” .

It’s looking like a great event, an opportunity to buy the book and or get them signed, raising funds for DoveHouse too!

The final arrangements are being finalised so more details will follow soon.

(Sir) Nicky Barmby joins Scunthorpe
Hull City legend Nicky Barmby is reported to have joined the coaching staff at Scunthorpe United.

Nicky joins his former teammate Andy Dawson, who has been appointed as caretaker coach after the departure of Stuart McCall.

We wish both players well in their endeavours to keep the Iron in League One, they currently sit just two points above the relegation zone and have won just one of their last seven league games.

Easter Egg Appeal
Local Homeless charity Emmaus Hull & East Riding are appealing for your help.

They are looking to collect 350 Easter eggs and present them to the school children at Clifton Primary School before Easter.

If they manage to exceed this amount, any remaining eggs will be donated to rough sleepers by their outreach team.

Details of how you can help can be found here.

More details of the charities work can be found here on their website.

EFL / MIND Badges
The EFL and MIND have launched a campaign entitled ‘On Your Side’ to raise awareness of mental health issues.

Part of this campaign includes the sale of ‘On Your Side’ badges in the colours of all the 72 EPL teams.

Hull City badges are still available and can be bought from the MIND on-Line Shop here.

More details of the campaign can be found here.

HCST Last Man Standing Competition
Week 10 and we are down to the last 2…

No fixtures last weekend, which gave the final two tipsters even more time to analyse the stats & make an informed choice for their team ( or pick a name out of a hat ).

** STOP PRESS** – We can reveal that the remaining contestants have plumped for Man City and Crystal Palace.

Remember for there to be a winner, there has to be a Last Man Standing.

If both fail at the last hurdle, everyone is back in.

We may need to include non Saturday fixtures (eg Easter, final Sunday
etc) and may well make the rules slightly harder (Championship games only).

Watch out for an email when we get to that stage. Be good for you all to
take part again.

If you didn’t sign up this time – don’t worry, we will be running another competition after this one finishes!.

FSF Away Fans Survey 2018/19
The Football Supporters Federation (FSF) are running their annual survey of the experience of fans who attend away games.

The survey can be found here and should take only a few minutes to fill in.

We encourage all travelling fans to complete the survey to allow the FSF to measure the experience of the away fan. Remember you can fill it in for each away gameswhich you attend..

Hull City Ladies
In difficult, blustery conditions last Sunday, the Tigresses went down to a battling 2-1 defeat at home to champions elect Blackburn Rovers Ladies.

City were level at half time but a scrappy goal by the visitors was enough for them to claim their 19th win out of 20 league games so far this season and just 2 points from the title with 4 games to play.

This Sunday, City are away to 11th placed Sheffield Ladies and with a similar performance to last week will be hopeful of victory.

Good luck girls

Weekly News Update

It was a tale of two halves last Saturday as City unfathomably managed to throw away a 2-0 halftime lead against QPR. City will rue lost points in a game very similar to Rotherham at home a few weeks ago. Those extra four points would see city on the coattails of the top six, which unfortunately now look a very unlikely outcome.

No game this week due to the International break with England taking on the Czech Republic and Montenegro.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

HCST Open Letter to the Club.
In response to a lack of dialogue from Hull City, The Trust have this week sent an open letter hilighting a number of issues which are of concern to fans…

The issues include Nigel Adkins contract situation, Ticket pricing for 2019/20 (including the return of meaningful concessions) and the Emergency Evacuation incident (see more below)

The full text of the letter can be read here on our website.

The open letter has gained national support, with Henry Winter (Chief Football Writer for The Times) re-tweeting our original tweet:

We hope that the issues are discussed at the forthcoming Supporters Committee meeting, which unfortunatly we have not been invited to attend…

(As we go to press we understand that the Club have started contract negotiations with Nigel – we congratulate them in responding so quickly to our letter…)

Evacuation False Alarm
The Trust have still had no feedback from the club regarding the Evacuation False Alarm during the Birmingham City game on Saturday 2nd March.

However, we reached out to Peter Curry, who is Structures, Safety & Emergency Planning Manager at Hull City Council to see if he could provide us with some information to share with fans.

His reply can be read on our website here – Thank you very much Peter for your prompt reply.

The Club or the SMC could have made this statement, but have chosen not to do so…

More details on our original statement can be read here on our website.

HCST attend National Fans Group Meeting.
On Tuesday (19th) HCST Chairman Geoff Bielby and Treasurer Pete Fleming travelled to London to represent the Trust at the EFL Fans’ Group meeting .

The meeting, organised by The Unified Football Supporters Organization (the working title for the combined FSF/SD organisation) is open to all Supporters Groups

The meeting takes place ahead of the TUFSO formal meeting with EFL executives and is one of the ways that fans can give their input ahead of those bi-annual meets.

Topics covered included Flexible Football Rail Tickets, Governance / Clubs in Crisis and (topically) Pitch Incursions.

One topic of particular interest to City fans is the area of Structured Dialogue with clubs.

Details of the meeting will appear in a future newsletter.

HCST Last Man Standing Competition
Week 9 and they thought it was all over…

With about 10 mins to go last Saturday we had a winner.

One of the remaining contestants had the temerity to pick Hull City,
whilst the other two kept picking whoever was playing Huddersfield!

Ah well, Huddersfield snatched a defeat from the jaws of victory and
City, did, well a ‘typical City’.

So we are now down to two remaining.

Remember for there to be a winner, there has to be a Last Man Standing.

If both fail at the last hurdle, everyone is back in.

No fixtures this weekend, but depending how long the last two carry on
for, we hope to have another round in before the end of the season.

We may need to include non Saturday fixtures (eg Easter, final Sunday
etc) and may well make the rules slightly harder (Championship games only).

Watch out for an email when we get to that stage. Be good for you all to

Hull City Ladies
The Tigresses had to come from behind to beat rock bottom Bradford City Ladies 3-1 last weekend, condeming the West Yorkshire visitors to their 20th consecutive league defeat.

The girls are at home once again this Sunday, but this time they host runaway leaders Blackburn Rovers Ladies who are closing in on a Woman’s Super League 2 return having won 18 out of their 19 matches to date.

City have now gone 3 games unbeaten but will need to raise their game to make it a 4th.

Kick off this Sunday is once again 2pm at the Hull University Sports Ground on Inglemire Lane.

Good luck girls

Response from Peter Curry, Structures, Safety & Emergency Planning Manager at Hull City Council – False Alarm Birmingham City Match

The Club & the SMC have failed to respond to our enquiry on the recent aborted stadium evacuation but it didn’t stop us getting an answer. Many thanks to Peter Curry for his insight, copy of email received below:

It is unfortunate that the SMC have not responded to your request for information about the false alarm incident at the recent fixture. I am also awaiting a written report but can give you the brief details following the de-brief.

Because of issues outside of the stadiums control the fire alarm was triggered in the Arena in West Park. This alarm is connected to the stadium alarm but should have been isolated from the control room when the Fire Panel Control was switched from normal day to day operation to match day mode. Because it was not isolated, the fire alarm went into immediate alarm rather than a silent alarm which allows a delay on match days for the fire response team to investigate. The alarm should only go into full evacuation if triggered by the safety officer or a failure to respond to the stage one alarm. Because it went into immediate full evacuation the message normally received by the stewards was bypassed, hence they did not know how to respond, because it is drilled into them during training that they should respond to one particular message (can’t tell you what it is) and they had not received the message. I can assure you that the incident was under full control within 30 seconds of the full evacuation message being transmitted. Having de-briefed the incident I am satisfied that this was outside of the control rooms control and measures have been put in place to avoid a repeat.

Open Letter To Hull City

As we enter the final stages of the 2018/19 season, it is an absolute credit to Nigel Adkins and his backroom team, that despite the exodus of players last summer, and the minimal level of investment given to him by the Club owners, that he has managed to be able to guide the team to remain within touching distance of the play-off places.

It is extremely concerning therefore, to the players and most Hull City supporters that the future of Nigel and his support staff remains uncertain leaving himself, (and the fans), unsure as to whether their contracts are to be extended beyond the end of the current season.

National journalists and broadcasters have stated their surprise in recent weeks at the uncertainty over Nigel’s future with the Club, especially as the commendable job he has done with the team in such difficult circumstances, which can only have enhanced his reputation within the English game and alerted proactive owners of competitive clubs to his services.

Should a competitor club decide to make an approach for Nigel, it would be completely understandable that he would be tempted to leave Hull City and decide to ply his trade elsewhere and leave behind a backdrop of further uncertainty on and off the pitch.

The decline in matchday attendances at the K.Com stadium this seasons has been alarming but hardly surprising given the Club’s continued use of the unpopular and much maligned Membership Scheme, that despite offering at times competitive prices for adult supporters, does not offer concessionary prices which has priced out less abled, senior citizen and junior supporters, the latter of which has been a major concern for too long in relation to the future fan base of the Club. Regarding the Club’s stance on disabled ticketing, in light of the recent victory over York Barbicans disabled ticketing policy,  we ask the Club for an update on this important, current matter.

The uncertainty over contracts beyond this season, is not confined to just the management team, yet again, the futures of numerous first team players are not clear as the season draws to a close and contract extensions not discussed.

As a backdrop to the above, the prolonged uncertainty over the Club ownership situation continues to be a huge distraction to supporters, and undoubtedly the management team and players at the Club, which can only hamper medium to longer terms decisions that need to be made on an individual and collective level.

It has been widely reported that there have been numerous parties interested in purchasing the Club since the play-off final victory over Sheffield Wednesday almost 3 years ago, none of which have reached a successful conclusion. The recently reported asking price quoted by Assem Allam of £50m is well in excess of purchase prices for Championship clubs over the past 2 years, (all of whom owned their stadiums), and bafflingly £9m more than the figure quoted last October.

With any business transaction, there needs to be a willing buyer and a willing seller to conclude a deal. The inflated current asking price for a Club with minimal assets cannot be conducive to new owners making a successful purchase and is surely a matter that the Allam family need to review to a more realistic and achievable asking price.

Unfortunately, the relationship between the Club and the Hull City Supporters Trust board continues to remain fractured following a decision by the Club ‘senior management’ to no longer formally deal with the Trust whilst our current Chairman remains in his position. Supporters Trusts are independent, not for profit organisations that are designed to enable a voice for fans and the local community, with an ultimate aim of fan representation on the Club Board.

We have stated previously that we cannot allow the Club to dictate the structure and operation of the Trust Board, as this would remove our independence and impartiality in representing our members and the wider fan base.

Despite the Trust being the largest independent supporter organisation connected to Hull City, we were not invited to the Club’s only ‘Supporters Committee meeting’ so far this season. We are aware that there is a further meeting scheduled by the Club on March 27th, and again it appears that we will not be invited to send a representative of the Board, (excluding the current Chairman as offered to the Club and endorsed as a fair and reasonable compromise offer by the English Football League, Football Supporters Federation and Supporters Direct), and therefore respectfully request through this open communication, that the Club address the following concerns:

  1. The future of Nigel Adkins and his backroom staff is resolved as a matter of urgency well in advance of the end of the current season, which we hope will see a suitable contract extension offered by the Club.
  2. The Club advises all supporters on the membership pricing for the 2019/20 season no later than the end of April 2019 to enable supporters to make an informed decision on whether they wish to commit to continue to make direct debit payments during the close season period and into the new season. (The Club stated in July 2018 that prices would remain at current levels until October 2018 and then reviewed although there is no evidence that this was ever conducted. We believe it is unfair and unjust for supporters to be expected to continue to make monthly payments without an immediate review)
  3. That concessionary pricing models are reintroduced for junior, senior and disabled supporters for both the membership scheme and supporters wishing to purchase tickets via the Matchday Card.
  4. There is an extended period for supporters wishing to obtain a Matchday Card at no cost. (The Club have refused to respond to our written concerns from August & September 2018, that 36-hour window of opportunity in July was unacceptably short and that this timescale was not promoted enough to enable supporters to sign up for the card)
  5. The Club issue a full statement in response to the aborted stadium evacuation during the half time period at the recent Birmingham City fixture on March 2nd, clearly stating what actions have been addressed with the Stadium Management Company and confirmation that all matchday staff have been re-trained and reminded of their individual roles and responsibilities during such a situation, which was not evident at the time of the incident above.

As a Trust Board, we are elected to represent our members with their queries and concerns in relation to matters affecting them as Hull City supporters, and we will continue to do so despite the Club’s current stance of only offering of informal contact with our Secretary.

Finally, we remain open to engaging in meaningful dialogue with the current and any responsible Club owners, whilst remaining hopeful that a deal to enable more proactive and engaging ownership for the Club is agreed in the foreseeable future.

Hull City Supporters Trust

Update – False Alarm Birmingham City Match

Further to our statement on 6th March following the automated evacuation alert that was broadcast over the stadium tannoy system at half time of the Birmingham home game, which stated the club were, “in consultation with SMC with regards to this. A response to supporters will be given in due course”. We, unfortunately, have to inform you that, at this time, no response has been forthcoming from the club.

The Trust expresses concerns for the clubs supporters especially the most vulnerable following the debacle and have not been reassured by the lack of response by Hull City. We call for a robust review by the City Council and the SMC urgently.

Weekly News Update

In our previous newsletter we mentioned that the last week was potentially season defining and two defeats has probably seen any faint hope of the play offs disappear.

City competed for an hour against Nottingham Forest before conceding three in quick succession which was followed by a tough game on Wednesday night against top of the league Norwich City. The Tigers showed some decent attacking play however their defending was nowhere near the level required and a 3-2 defeat in all fairness was generous on City.

QPR are the visitors to the KCOM this weekend, hopefully the good home form can continue and deliver another win before heading into the International break.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

HCST ‘Kids for a Quid’
One of the proposals passed at the recent AGM was that junior members will now only pay £1 for Membership.

Previously junior (non-voting) members had paid an annual fee £2, now it will be a ‘one-off’ payment of £1 for junior membership until they reach their 16th birthday

Evacuation False Alarm
The Trust have had no feedback from the club regarding the Evacuation False Alarm during the Birmingham City game on Saturday 2nd March.

In response to our original enquiry the club replied saying “We are in consultation with SMC with regards to this. A response to supporters will be given in due course”.

As it is now two weeks since the incident, and we have another home game on Saturday (16th) we would expect that the club treat the matter with some urgency.

We have today made further representation to the club and will keep you informed of the outcome.

More details on the statement can be read here on our website.

HCST scarves delivered to Middle Child
HCST Secretary Rich Mathers has delivered scarves for Middle Child Theatre’s forthcoming production “Us Against Whatever”.

The production is described as  “An electrifying cabaret about the places we keep in our hearts” features a section entitled “Windass at Wembely”.

The Trust have donated a number of scarves for use in the performance.

We urge all members to attend this performance from this award-winning local theatre group.

More details, including dates & prices, can be found here on the Middle Child website.

North Ferriby United wound up.
The Villagers have been liquidated due to unpaid debts at a hearing at Hull County Court this morning (Friday).

This brings to an end 85 years of football history, culminating in THAT day at Wembley.

All at HCST hope that something can be rescued from this terrible situation.

HCST Last Man Standing Competition
Week 8 and only 3 tipsters remaining…

Last week 9 fell by the wayside due to slip-ups by West Brom and (as usual) Spurs.

Two of the 3 remaining are from our ‘International representation’, currently residing in France and Holland respectively.

Those of you who are playing should have received an email, if not contact Ian via the address on the website.

If you didn’t sign up this time – don’t worry, we will be running another competition after this one finishes!.

The survey can be found here and should take only a few minutes to fill in.

We encourage all travelling fans to complete the survey to allow the FSF to measure the experience of the away fan. Remember you can fill it in for each away gameswhich you attend..

Hull City Ladies
After a blank weekend, the Tigresses came back from behind twice to earn a 3-3 draw at home to the famous Doncaster Belles, securing a point with a last minute equaliser.

This Sunday, the girls will be very confident going into another home game against bottom of the table Bradford City Ladies who have unfortunately lost all 19 of their league games so far this season……conceding 111 goals, (and scoring just 10), during their dreadful run..

Kick off for this potential goal fest is the usual 2pm at the Hull University Sports Ground on Inglemire Lane.

Members Voice…..

Today is our first post from Gareth Walker, a HCST member who contacted us asking to write football related content. We are pleased to publish this and ask any other member / Hull City AFC supporter to contact us if they have similar content.

How do you solve a problem with fan Invasion?
It’s been 24 hours since the shocking and quite frankly disgraceful attack on footballer Jack Grealish in the Midlands derby between Birmingham & Aston Villa when a so called ‘fan’ ran onto the pitch and assaulted him from behind. This follows on from the scenes north of the border when a glass bottle was thrown at Celtic’s Scott Sinclair & a Hibernian ‘fan’ confronted Rangers footballer James Taverner. Home Office figures show that arrests for pitch incursions at games in England and Wales have risen over the last five seasons from 155 in 2012-13 to 204 in 2016-17 – the most recent season they account for. Stadium safety is paramount these days with what happened at Hillsborough and with supporters trusts planning and asking for safe standing to return to grounds across the country, some may feel this is a step backwards in the pursuit for these changes.
The incidents come amid a rise in allegations of fan violence and abuse, with Raheem Sterling allegedly the subject of racist taunts from a Chelsea fan this season, while a Tottenham supporter threw a banana at Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Points deductions & closed doors matches will only punish those who aren’t responsible, and fans might see their team get relegated due to an idiot encroaching onto the pitch. Some fans may argue that this could cause situations, where a supporter could pretend to be from another club and get their rivals punished, although an investigation by the police should be able to find out where a fan’s true allegiance lies. Looking at the statistics, for the third consecutive year, more Birmingham City fans were arrested last season (95) than any other club in England’s top five leagues.

Could this be the club where the very fan culture itself must be brought into question by the EFL? Or is what is happening in football mirroring what is happening in society currently with the fatal stabbings & police cuts in the UK? Just when football is about to secure another multi-billion-pound TV deal, there is a bad combination of clubs getting richer but cutting costs and police forces cannot subsidise football. Some may argue that clubs should be forced to pay out for more in policing in stadiums to help stewards in dealing with the situations that arise, would this have a negative effect on clubs in League 2 who themselves struggle to finance the playing staff on the pitch? The only certain outcome that must come from this is the PFA and the football leagues bodies must come together and for the authorities heavily fine and life-time ban the individuals who decide to ruin the experience for everybody else.

Weekly News Update

Just when you think City have blown any chances of the play offs this season they put together back-to-back wins to keep that glimmer of hope. In fact, it was a very good performance last Saturday to defeat fellow play-off chasers Birmingham City 2-0.

The Tigers now head to the appropriately named City ground to face Nottingham Forest, a stadium where City have won their last five league fixtures. With Forest level on points with City it will be a real six pointer and the loser knowing their promotion chances are all but over.

Following the weekend the Tigers then visit title hopefuls Norwich City. Another very tough game in what will most likely be a season defining week. Let’s hope Nigel Adkins and the team pull off a couple of wins!

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

HCST Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting took place on Saturday 2nd March at the William Gemmel Social Club.

We would like to thank all those who attended.

The minutes of the meeting can be read here (along with all previous AGM Minutes).

The Annual Report presented at the meeting can be read here – please share amongst your non-member friends to show them the work which is done by the Trust – and prehaps persuade them to join?

HCST Board Meeting
Following the AGM the Trust held a Board meeting on Monday 4th March at the William Gemmel

Geoff Bielby was re-elected as Chairman and the Board welcomed newly elected Director Bobbi Hadgraft and newly elected co-opted Directors Dave Batte and Russell Anson.

The minutes of the meeting can be read here (along with all previous Board Meeting Minutes).

Evacuation False Alarm
The Trust have contacted the club on behalf of concerned fans regarding the Evacuation False Alarm during the Birmingham City game on Saturday 2nd March.

In response the club have replied saying “We are in consultation with SMC with regards to this. A response to supporters will be given in due course”.

We will monitor the situation and make further representation to the club if no response is forthcoming in a timely manner.

More details on the statement can be read here on our website.

HCST support local Theatre Group
The Trust are pleased to announce their support for Middle Child Theatre’s forthcoming production “Us Against Whatever”.

The production described as  “An electrifying cabaret about the places we keep in our hearts” features a section entitled “Windass at Wembely”.

The Trust have donated a number of scarves for use in the performance.

We urge all members to attend this performance from this award-winning local theatre group.

More details, including dates & prices, can be found here on the Middle Child website.

Managers Contract position hilighted on EFL on Quest
TV Pundit Dean Ashton has commented on Nigel Adkins contract situation at City.

Dean said: “It seems pretty obvious to pretty much everyone other than the owners themselves [that they should extend his contract]. Like he said himself, [they were] pretty much tipped for relegation and they’re pushing for the top six – it’s been an outstanding season for him and his team.”

We again urge the club to resolve this situation as soon as possible.

Online app takeover of Footbal Club falls through
The takeover of Hednesford Town by online app OWNA Football Club has fallen through.

A vote was due to take place tonight among OWNAFC’s 3,500-plus members – who have paid a one-off fee of £49 to have their say on new signings as well as hiring and firing staff from their mobile phones – to decide if the Keys Park side were a club they wished to continue to pursue. However, both OWNAFC and Hednesford have now confirmed the takeover is off.

The FSF have commented on the issue saying: “We firmly believe any prospective owner of a football club should meaningfully engage with the stakeholders at that club, chief among whom are the supporters, for any takeover to have legitimacy and ultimately to be sustainable and successful.”

The Trust fully agree with the position of the FSF on this matter.

The full FSF statement can be read here on their website

More details on OWNA FC can be found on their website.

EFL / MIND Badges
The EFL and MIND have launched a campaign entitled ‘On Your Side’ to raise awareness of mental health issues.

Part of this campaign includes the sale of ‘On Your Side’ badges in the colours of all the 72 EPL teams.

Hull City badges are still avaiable and can be bought from the MIND on-Line Shop here.

More details of the campaign can be found here.

KCOM Move Impact Survey – Now Closed.
Football fan Tomas Cresswell would like to thank all fans who completed the survey.

The survey, which was to support his dissertation is about the commercialisation of professional football, was completed by far more fans than he anticipated, which gave him an excellent range of statistical data to back up his argument.

Hull City Ladies
After a difficult start to 2019, the Tigresses returned to winning ways last Sunday with an impressive 2-1 home win over 4th placed Huddersfield.

It was the best Ladies team performance for a number of weeks and hopefully the start of a strong final run in towards the end of the season.

Town were 4-1 victors in the reverse fixture earlier in the season so City will need to be on their game to get a positive result.

The girls are not in action this weekend but do host Doncaster Belles next Wednesday, (13th March), in a winnable looking game. Kick off is 7.45pm at the Hull University Sports Ground on Inglemire Lane.

Funds available for Local Youth Football teams.
Do You (or someone you know) run a Hull Boys Sunday Football team or an East Riding Girls Team?

The collapse of the Wembley sale might result in no extra funds going to grass roots football, but don’t worry – funding is available locally.

Several years ago, the then Tigers Co-Operative, now Hull City Supporters Trust, donated £6,000 to support local youth football teams.

For more details of the scheme follow the link here.

There are still funds available, of up to £100 per team. All you need to do is complete the application form available here.

Statement – False Alarm – Birmingham City Match

We were contacted after Saturdays game versus Birmingham City by numerous members and supporters, including carers for disabled supporters in relation to an automated evacuation alert that was broadcast over the stadium tannoy system at half time.

We have contacted the club and they have responded stating that they, “are in consultation with SMC with regards to this. A response to supporters will be given in due course”.

We thank the club for their email and look forward to their response.

Weekly News Update

Two contrasting results over the last week for the Tigers has seen their slim play off hopes all-but evaporate.

Firstly a trip to London was going very well after Fraizer Campbell opened the scoring however that was as good as it got for City who conceded five without reply. An improved showing three days later under a sadly record low KCOM crowd saw the Tigers bounce back with a 2-1 defeat of Millwall.

City can go level on points with opponents Birmingham on Saturday if they are victorius with the Blues also aiming for a play off push.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

Hull City Ladies
After a blank weekend last week, the Tigresses return to league action this Sunday with a home fixture against Huddersfield Town Ladies.

The run of tough fixtures continue for City as the Terriers are currently 4th in the table with games in hand on the teams above.

Town were 4-1 victors in the reverse fixture earlier in the season so City will need to be on their game to get a positive result.

Weekly News Update

Here is the weekly update of the Trust’s activity and stories on our website.
The last week has probably seen an end to City’s faint play off hopes. Firstly a defeat at Derby County could have been different if first half chances had been taken. Then a very disappointing second half saw City throw away a 2-0 halftime lead at home to strugglers Rotherham Utd.
The results leave the Tigers 7 points and 5 places off the top six which is most likely too much to do in just 14 games. At least a positive can be taken from City pulling away from the relegation zone which looked a very big ask only a couple of months ago.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

Blackpool closer to being Oyston-free
This week the sorry tale of the mis-management of Blackpool FC came one step closer to resolution with the appointment of a Receiver by the High Court.

The Receivers were appointed because of the Oystons failiure to pay £22M owing to former shareholder Valeri Belokon.

Blackpool fans, led by Blackpool Supporters Trust and the action group  Tangerine Knights have boycotted games & merchandise for many years in protest at the way the Oystons have run the club, under the campaign banner #NAPM (Not A Penny More).

All at HCST hope that the end is in sight for Blackpool fans, so that they can return to supporting the club that they love.

More details on the Blackpool situation can be found here on the BBC website.

Has the FA Cup been devalued by TV Money?
The re-scheduling of many FA Cup games for TV audiences (particularly obscure overseas locations) brings into question ‘the Magic of the Cup’.

An article (here) hilights the fact that only one third of the 3rd Round ties this year kicked off at the traditional time of 3pm on the Staurday.

This major change for this season is due to a new large 6-year contract which seems to benefit those involved ( The F.A. , the clubs) to the detrement of the fans (again).

HCST ‘Last Man Standing’ Competition.
Week 4 and 15 tipsters are left standing..

Please remember – No Premier League this week so it has to be FA Cup or Championship games and must be played on the Saturday.

The survey can be completed here and will only take about 5 minutes.

Hull City Ladies
It was a Derby double last weekend as 24 hours after the mens defeat, the Tigresses took a real ‘mauling’ of their own last Sunday going down 7-2 away at Derby County Ladies.

The girls made a bright start to the game but  soon found themselves overrun by their hosts.

This Sunday looks an equally tricky match as   City are away at 3rd placed Sunderland although the Mackems promotion push has faultered a bit recently having drawn 2 and lost 1 of their previous 3 league games.

For more articles on The Ladies check out the excellent Fanatic Hull website.

HCST Board Election – 2019

As you will be aware, 2018 proved to be a very busy and influential year for the Trust Board, which at times led to feedback generally positive, (and occasionally negative), but if you feel you have the desire and capabilities to enhance the Board and drive HCST to greater heights, then get involved.

We welcome applications from all Members fulfilling the criteria above and taking an active role in one of the many sub-groups we have in place working on our key areas of focus and development.

Weekly News Update

It was back to winning ways for City last week with a well-earned victory over Stoke City. The result sees The Tigers’ play off push get back on track ahead of another big game this weekend against Derby County. A win could lift City to one point outside the top six and City should travel with confidence backed by a decent away following.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

New Crest
City unvieled our new crest this week.

After a prolonged period of consultation and the findings of a select panel, we welcome the changes made by reintroducing the team name onto the crest and acknowledge the majority of public feedback from fans has been positive

Assem Allam Interview.
There has been much focus and debate in the interview broadcast by the BBC between David Burns and Assem Allam.

Fans will draw their own conclusions with regards to Dr Allams comments on failed bids and the current asking price for the Club.

It is disappointing he chose this interview to refer to an incident that occurred over 14 months ago involving our Chairman.

From our side this was dealt with internally with full support from Supporters Direct and the Football Supporters Federation as soon as the Club made an official complaint about this incident (some 6 months after the event) and we see no benefit in referring to it again.

A position of compromise remains on the table to the Club again endorsed by SD & FSF and acknowledged by the EFL

HCST ‘Last Man Standing’ Competition.
All 20 tipsters made it through this week!

Only two teams were selected –  Chelsea or Sheffield United – but as each week goes by, in theory it should get harder as many may have already used up their ‘big teams’.

Those of you who are playing should have received an email, if not contact Ian via the address on the website.

If you didn’t sign up this time – don’t worry, we will be running another competition after this one finishes!.

EFL / MIND Badges

EFL Supporters Survey 2019
If you like filling in surveys then the EFL are keen to hear fans views…

The survey can be found here and takes about 20 minutes to fill in, but everyone completing the survey will be entered into a prize draw for a chance to win a copy of FIFA 20 or pairs of tickets to various football games – so have a go.

Hull City Ladies
The Tigresses slump in form during 2019 continued last Sunday with a disappointing 0-1 home defeat to mid-table rivals Guiseley Vixens..

Manager Rachael Gay made her feelings know after the game and will be looking for a much improved performance from her team this week.

Bizarrely, like the men’s team the girls are away to Derby County this Sunday in what will be an equally tricky game.

For more articles on The Ladies check out the excellent Fanatic Hull website.

HCST’s Partners of the Week
In this week’s Partner of the Week section, we have an in-depth look at two HCST partners – Dementia Friendly East Riding & Leasing for Business.

Our first partner of the week is Dementia Friendly East Riding.

Would you like to know more about Dementia?

There are currently 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to soar to 2 million by 2051.

One person will develop dementia every three minutes.

It effects so many more people though; in particular the loved ones of those diagnosed. If you are not affected by it now, chances are you will soon know  someone who is.

Dementia Friendly East Riding (DFER) is a charitable organisation which aims to raise awareness and understanding of dementia, and provide activities to support people living with dementia.

DFER is pleased to work in partnership with HCST, and is happy to assist any HCST members and organisations with training and advice on how we can all become dementia friendly.

Weekly News Update

A week after City’s winning streak was ended at Aston Villa, their unbeaten run also fell in a rather miserly fashion at Blackburn Rovers. The Tigers were second best throughout the game and ended up with a deserved 3-0 defeat in performance that would not have looked out of place in the first quarter of the season.

Hopefully it was just a blip, but City need to get back on track this weekend against Stoke City to avoid the gap to the top six getting any wider if they really do have play off ambitions. Stoke have been disappointing on their return to the Championship and sit two points and two places behind City. The game will also see the return of ex-tiger Sam Clucas who we are sure will receive a warm welcome back.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

HCST ‘Last Man Standing’ Competition.
Congratulations to those who made it through the second round!

There are now 20 tipsters left in the running (unfortunately your editor is not one of them, as he thought Shrewsbury vs Wolves was a dead cert for the away team…)

Those of you who are playing should have received an email, if not contact Ian via the address on the website.

If you didn’t sign up this time – don’t worry, we will be running another competition after this one finishes!.

More details of the campaign can be found here.

We encourage all travelling fans to complete the survey to allow the FSF to measure  the experience of the away fan. Remember you can fill it in for each away gameswhich you attend..

The Tigresses finally returned to league action last Sunday but went down to a 0-1 defeat to Fylde in a tight game of few chances.

The girls were convinced they had grabbed a point until a late goal was controversially disallowed by the referee. (Unfortunately VAR is not available in the Women’s leagues!).

This Sunday the Tigresses have a re-arranged home league fixture against Guiseley Vixens. (Usual 2pm kick off time at the Hull University Sports Ground on Inglemire Lane).Guiseley are 1 place and 2 points below City in the table but have 4 games in hand so it’s a chance for our girls to open up a bit of a gap on their mid-table rivals.Don’t forget that kids get in free and adult Trust members get a 20% discount on production of their membership card.

HCST Board Election – 2019
Further to the recent notification relating to our next Annual General Meeting on Saturday 2nd March, we are now able to confirm that 6 Board positions will be available for election or re-election at the AGM.

Any fully paid up member aged 16 or over can be considered for nomination but will need to be nominated by 2 other fully paid up members. It is recommended that any members potentially interested fully read and understand the Trust Election Policy, (available via our website), and pay particular attention to points 13-22 of that Policy.

The Election Nomination form can be downloaded in either Word or PDF format,  and needs to be received by our Secretary by Saturday 16th February 2019  (So you have plenty of time to consider applying).

Should any Member wish to receive further details of the role and activities as a Trust Director, then please drop an e-mail to secretary@hullcityst.com or come and find us prior to any Hull City home game in the William Gemmell Social Club on Anlaby Road. (Details of all our meetings and activity can be found on our website. )

Weekly News Update

It wasn’t to be seven straight victories as Aston Villa came from behind to stop the Hull City juggernaut last Saturday. The tigers lead 2-0 thanks to an accomplished first half performance but had to settle for a point after a spirited Aston Villa fight back. A point away from home at a ground City notoriously get little from isn’t the end of the world and there is still the unbeaten run to protect.

How City hit back this weekend is key as they face fellow play-off hopefulls Blackburn Rovers. A win and the momentum is maintained but a defeat could see a probably unbridgeable gap form between the top six. The tigers are certainly capable of winning and will be boosted by the addition of Marc Pugh who by all reports is a shrewd addition.

Hull City Ladies
After a disappointing start to 2019 with 2 cup exits, the Tigresses finally return to league action for the first time since the end of November this weekend.

The girls are away at Fylde on Sunday, who are 1 place but 4 points above City in the league. The teams know each other well having gained promotion together last season so it should be a game the Tigresses look to get a positive result from and get their season back on track.

Weekly News Update

City made it six wins from six in the league with another mauling of a Yorkshire rival last weekend, Sheffield Wednesday the latest club to be swept aside by a rampant City outfit.

To score three goals is always good, the clean sheet was a big positive but perhaps the most impressive part of the victory was the 90 minute performance. City dominated from start to finish which is something seldom seen in such a competitive division.

This Saturday the Tigers head to Aston Villa in what will be a very tough test. Villa will be desperate to get back on track having been in indifferent form recently, seeing their play off push stall a little and with City full of confidence it points towards an entertaining game. Let’s hope it’s a magnificent seventh victory!

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

Development Review
Last Friday afternoon the under 23 side travelled down to Nottingham Forest and drew 1-1.

Tom Powell scored in the first half, but Forest managed to peg back late in the second.  This afternoon they are in action again, this time against Barnsley.

The under 18 side took on Wigan Athletic in the FA Youth cup at the KCOM last Saturday following the first team match against Sheffield Wednesday.  We were pleased to see the number of fans stayed behind to watch a match of conflicting fortunes.

The Tigers were impressive in the first half and missed a few opportunities to score only for The Latics to score twice in the final ten minutes of the half.  The half-time chat seemed to rouse them, and Keane Lewis-Potter scored a lovely goal to get them back in the tie.  The Latics responded with three more goals before Rob Guilfoyle scored one back, only for them to score a 6th and see off the tie 2-6.

Hull City Ladies
The Tigresses suffered a successive weekend of cup knockout last Sunday as a disappointing display saw them go down 3-1 at Bolton in the Women’s League Cup after extra time, despite taking a 2nd half lead.

The Ladies have a blank weekend this week before returning to league action away at Fylde on January 27th.

For more articles on The Ladies check out the excellent Fanatic Hull website.

HCST’s Partners of the Week
In this week’s Partner of the Week section, we have an in-focus look at two HCST partners – Hull & East Yorkshire Mind & Rob McFadyen Advanced Driving Instructor.

Our first partner of the week is Hull and East Yorkshire Mind .

Hull and East Yorkshire Mind is a local mental health charity, working so that everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.

The impact of mental illness can be devastating. Not only for those directly affected but also their families, friends, colleagues and loved ones.

Hull and East Yorkshire Mind helps people improve their mental health. They work with individuals to support them in a way that works for them- building confidence and social networks, helping people establish a safe place to live and call home, helping people to find hope and to recover.

They also work to prevent mental ill health through education and prevention work, and we campaign to challenge the stigma and discrimination that sometimes occurs with mental health problems.

Mind have linked with the English Football League to promote awareness about mental health, and HCST have partnered with the Hull and East Yorkshire branch to tie in with that.

More information about Hull and East Yorkshire Mind can be found on theirwebsite They are also active on Facebook & Twitter.

Weekly News Update

Well there’s always next year… A much changed City side slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Millwall in the FA Cup last weekend. For a while it looked like City may continue their impressive form whilst leading through Jon Toral. However, two quick fire goals late on dashed those hopes and the Tigers fell at the first hurdle. The cup obviously is not top priority for the club, especially when there is a sniff of the play offs and hopefully that defeat doesn’t provide any mental setback.

This weekend Sheffield Wednesday visit the KCOM as City look to make it six straight league wins. The Owls are unbeaten in their last four league fixtures so it will be by no means an easy game with the players looking to impress former City manager Steve Bruce before he takes full charge.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

City pair win Monthly Awards!
Nigel Adkins and Jarrod Bowen have won the Championship Manager of the Month & Player of the Month awards for December.

Nigel steered the team to take 16 out of the 18 points available, including 3 points at league leaders Leeds United.

Jarrod scored 6 goals in December, with match-winning braces against Queens Park Rangers, Swansea City and Leeds United.

The Trust congratulate the pair on their well-deserved recognition.

North Ferriby United Ground Move Rejected
The Northern Premier League (NPL) have rejected the application by the owners of North Ferriby United to relocate the club.

The owners had wanted to relocate the club to Dunswell Park and also rename it to ‘East Hull’.

The NPL have also indicated to the FA that, as a stakeholder, they can also not support the application for a change of name.

The decision by the NPL can be challenged by an appeal to the FA, and it is understood that the owners plan to do that.

The NPL statement on the issue can be read here.

Male Suicide TV Interview
HCST Chairman Geoff Bielby discusses Male Suicide in an interview with Now TV Humber.

Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50, who make up the majority of football supporters.

Geoff’s personal experience with a close family member has spurred him on to find ways which the Trust can engage with local groups such as HeyMIND and DFER to help.

Remember, It’s always good to talk

The full interview can be seen here on the Now TV Humber Facebook page.

Development Review
Last weekend started well as the under 18 side took on a Bolton Wanderers side at Bishop Burton and emulated the first team by scoring six.

The City goals came from Rob Guilfoyle (3), Dan Hawkins, Tommy Best and Harry Wood in a comprehensive 6-2 victory.

The U18’s are next in action at the KCOM on Saturday, when they take on Wigan Athletic in the FA Youth Cup, following the first team’s game against Sheffield Wednesday.  This is a great opportunity to see the stars of tomorrow in action and we hope many of you will stay behind to cheer them on.

On Monday the under 23 side were at home against Leeds United at the Roy West Centre.  The game didn’t go their way and despite a goal from Lewis Ritson they went down to a 1-3 defeat (or mauling according to the Leeds United Twitter account!)  By the time you read this update they will have also played away at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest (kick off 14:00).

Hull City Ladies
The Tigresses went down to a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to AFC Wimbledon in the Women’s FA Cup round 3 tie last weekend that was watched by one of their biggest crowds of the season.

City looked rusty after a month of inactivity and the Dons proved worthy winners with their 2nd half display.

This Sunday, they will be hoping for better fortune in their rescheduled Womens League Cup tie away at Bolton Wanderers. It’s a match City are capable of winning to hopefully keep their other cup quest alive.

For more articles on The Ladies check out the excellent Fanatic Hull website.

These can be articles about football in general, all things Hull City or match reports. So if you’re a sports journalist in the making or just fancy giving it a go as a hobby please let us know – you don’t need to be a professional – all articles will be welcome. There’s no requirement to produce words every week or month, just as and when you are able to. If you are interested please email us here.
