Weekly News Update

It was a disappointing Easter Monday for the Tigers as a poor performance allowed Sheffield Utd to stroll to a 3-0 victory. City were very disappointing and some of the defending was woeful.

The last away game of the season sees City travel to Wales to face Swansea City. Realistically neither team has anything to play for so it’s anyone’s guess whether both will go for it or if it will be a drab end of season affair. Safe journey to all travelling

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

Sheffield United Crowd Trouble
After concerns expressed by our members and the wider Hull City fanbase, the Trust have contacted the Club regarding the crowd trouble at the Easter Monday game against Sheffield United.

A large number of Sheffield United fans had bought tickets in the Home areas, particularly in the North Stand and after David McGoldrick’s opener for the visitors on 10 minutes, their celibrations led to confrontation with the home fans.

We have asked the club/SMC to look at two main areas which concerned the fans..

  • How were the Sheffield United fans able to buy tickets in the away end?
  • Once these fans had been identified by home supporters, was the situation dealt with timely enough and adequately by the Stewards/Police?

We hope that the review by the Club/SMC will be made public as soon as possible & will address the fans concerns as stated above.

We understand the the FA have also opened an investigation into the events at the match.

Peter Skipper RIP
On Tuesday we heard the sad news thet ex City player Peter ‘Skip’ Skipper had passed away aged just 61.

Peter, a Hull-born central defender who made 338 appearances for City in two spells during the 1980’s – including two promotions, was a great favourite amongst players & fans.

Phil Buckingham from the Hull Daily Mail has written an excellent tribute to him with quotes from many teammates and other ex-City players. You can read it here

The Trust Board extend our condolences to Peter’s family in these difficult times.

HCST ‘Kids for a Quid’
One of the proposals passed at the recent AGM was that junior members will now only pay £1 for Membership.

Previously junior (non-voting) members had paid an annual fee £2, now it will be a ‘one-off’ payment of £1 for junior membership until they reach their 16th birthday

The aim of the proposal was to encourage more engagement with a supporter organisation connected to the club, to retain awareness and interest during a period when some families cannot afford to take children to home matches due to the club’s current pricing model that does not cater for concessionary age groups.

So, if you have children (or grandchildren) who aren’t junior members, or know of anyone who does, sign them up online here or alternatively download a paper application form here.

Crowd Trouble at Home Game v Sheffield United

The Supporters Trust expresses its concern at the large number of opposition supporters in the home stands today & the impact on fans safety. We trust that the club will hold a thorough investigation into ticket sales & the security procedures following today’s events.

We are aware that many fans have expressed their concerns directly to the club via social media. We look forward to a swift response.

Weekly News Update

City’s faintest of faint play off hopes disappeared this weekend with a courageous defeat against West Brom. The Tigers led 2-1 in the second half thanks to two Todd Kane strikes but couldn’t hold on to take any points from the game.

Monday brings the visit of Sheffield Utd who are battling with Leeds Utd for the second automatic promotion spot. City now have nothing to play for however there may be a personal motivation for Nigel Adkins to deny his former employer a premier league promotion, although that would hand advantage to Leeds!

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

Hull City Members Event
On Tuesday this week (16th) the club held a Members Event in the Kingston Suite at the KCOM stadium

Players Jarrod Bowen, Jackson Irvine & Jordy de Wijs and  manager  Nigel Adkins attended & the event was hosted by the excellent Rob Palmer.

The Trust would like to congratulate the club on a very well organised event and were glad to see the large number of children in attendance.

You can read more about the event on the City website here.

IIn this week’s Partner of the Week section, we have an in-focus look at two HCST partners – Hull & East Yorkshire Mind & Rob McFadyen Advanced Driving Instructor.

Our first partner of the week is Hull and East Yorkshire Mind .

Hull and East Yorkshire Mind is a local mental health charity, working so that everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.

Weekly News Update

This City team is certainly making a good go of keeping in the play off race. Two games and two wins, both from behind, keeps the Tigers in the hunt for an unlikely top six finish. It is totally unexpected and may end this weekend but it has been a joy to see the team galvanised under Nigel Adkins who deserves huge credit.

The Tigers travel to out of sorts Middlesbrough this Saturday with the home team only one point above City in the league. A win could narrow the gap further however any other outcome would most certainly mean the challenge is over. City are more than capable of beating a Boro team which has been very poor on their own ground this season, amassing just 27 points from 20 matches.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

5th Anniversary of #NoToHullTigers
Wednesday this week (9th) marked the fifth anniversary of the Football Association rejecting the (first) attempt to change our name to Hull Tigers….

The attempt to change City’s name led to the formation of our predecessors City Till We Die who campaigned vigourously to prevent the change and produced a very professional sumission to the FA which we feel contributed greatly to the rejection decision.

You can read the CTWD submission document here.

HCST Last Man Standing Competition
We have a winner in the first round on the HCST Last Man Standing
competition…

It came down to a final head to head between Alan Hemingway and Adam
Coatham.

This week, Alan selected Bristol City, but was thwarted by an inury time
equaliser for Wigan.

But fittingly, Adam chose Hull City, to become the new defending champion.

The next competition is alread underway, based on the midweek matches.

Late goals may have saved a few but that late Reading goal also accounted for 16 of the 41 entries, including the last winner, Adam Coatham. How the mighty
have fallen..

Remember, Championship teams only, and you can’t pick a team you have
already selected.

Hull City Ladies
After a blank Sunday, the Tigresses once again match the men’s team this weekend with an away trip to Middlesbrough.

This will be the girls final away league game of the season and it could prove to be a tricky match with Boro sitting in 3rd place in the table.

There’s no pressure on City though as they look to consolidate their mid table position and look to end the season on a high.

Weekly News Update

City thankfully ended their poor away form with a steady 2-0 victory against bottom side Ipswich Town last Saturday. Kamil Grosicki bagged a brace and the winning margin could have been greater although Ipswich did have a few moments to worry the Tigers’ back line.

Up next is a very winnable home double header with Reading (Saturday) and Wigan (Wednesday) visiting the KCOM. Two wins and City will most likely move within touching distance of the play offs before a more tough run of fixtures against sides at the right end of the table. Sadly, there’s also the potential for another record low crowd being registered during the upcoming matches with neither game expected to attract much of an away following or the imagination of the Hull public.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

HCST Last Man Standing Competition
Week 11 and still the last 2 are standing…

Adam and Alan were both successful with their choices of Crystal Palace & Man City respectively.

** STOP PRESS** – We can reveal that this weeks picks are Bristol City  and (drum roll ) HULL CITY! (but we are not going to tell you who has chosen whom)

Remember for there to be a winner, there has to be a Last Man Standing.

If both fail at the last hurdle, everyone is back in.

We may need to include non Saturday fixtures (eg Easter, final Sunday
etc) and may well make the rules slightly harder (Championship games only).

Watch out for an email when we get to that stage. Be good for you all to
take part again.

If you didn’t sign up this time – don’t worry, we will be running another competition after this one finishes!.

Hull City Ladies
Last Sunday the Tigresses went down to a disappointing 4-2 away defeat to Sheffield Ladies.

This result means they cannot finish higher than their current 9th position in their first season in the FA WPL Premier Division.

There’s no fixture for our Ladies this weekend as the teams around them play their game in hand.

Statement From the FSF

In June 2018 the FSF was invited by Hull City to discuss the club’s membership scheme, which replaced the traditional season ticket model.

In addition to this issue the subject of the club’s fractious relationship with our affiliate Hull City Supporters’ Trust (HCST) was also covered, as we attempted to help rebuild relations between the club and its fans.

While we received a friendly welcome from vice chairman Ehab Allam it was clear that the club was not willing to change its ticketing policy.

On Monday it was brought to our attention that the club’s Supporters’ Committee minutesreferenced this meeting and ascribed views to the FSF to which we do not subscribe. Despite requests to remove or alter these references the club has refused to do so.

In June’s meeting with the club we made clear that we would not endorse the club’s approach to concessions.

We believe a club’s ticketing policy should be set in consultation with its supporters and that should include a supporters’ trust where one exists. In addition we feel concessionary prices must be respected in order to make football as affordable and accessible as possible.

We will always be available to work with clubs and supporters to improve all aspects of matchdays for home and away fans and we remain open to further dialogue with Hull City.

Weekly News Update

After the international break it’s back to domestic duties this weekend and a trip for the Tigers to the almost certain to be relegated Ipswich Town.

The Tractor boys have won only two home league games all season so do provide City with an opportunity to end their recent poor run of form away from home. A defeat and any faint play off hopes that still remain will have well and truly vanished.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

Starman
The Trust wish to congratulate Jarrod Bowen in being named in the EFL Championship Team of the Season…

Jarrod has scored 21 goals in 37 starts in the Championship, including the current record-breaking run of scoring in eight consecutive home games, and becomes only the 26th player in the Club’s history to achieve 20 league goals in a season.

All 72 EFL managers were invited to vote for their players of the season, with votes compiled for the Championship, League One and League Two Teams of the Season.

The overall EFL Team of the Season will be announced at the EFL Awards on Sunday 7th April at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane.

Good Luck for that Jarrod!

Book Launch
Keep the evening of Saturday May 4th free….

That date’s been set for an event in Hull including past players and staff who’ve contributed to Richard Gardhams New book “The Decade” .

It’s looking like a great event, an opportunity to buy the book and or get them signed, raising funds for DoveHouse too!

The final arrangements are being finalised so more details will follow soon.

(Sir) Nicky Barmby joins Scunthorpe
Hull City legend Nicky Barmby is reported to have joined the coaching staff at Scunthorpe United.

Nicky joins his former teammate Andy Dawson, who has been appointed as caretaker coach after the departure of Stuart McCall.

We wish both players well in their endeavours to keep the Iron in League One, they currently sit just two points above the relegation zone and have won just one of their last seven league games.

Easter Egg Appeal
Local Homeless charity Emmaus Hull & East Riding are appealing for your help.

They are looking to collect 350 Easter eggs and present them to the school children at Clifton Primary School before Easter.

If they manage to exceed this amount, any remaining eggs will be donated to rough sleepers by their outreach team.

Details of how you can help can be found here.

More details of the charities work can be found here on their website.

EFL / MIND Badges
The EFL and MIND have launched a campaign entitled ‘On Your Side’ to raise awareness of mental health issues.

Part of this campaign includes the sale of ‘On Your Side’ badges in the colours of all the 72 EPL teams.

Hull City badges are still available and can be bought from the MIND on-Line Shop here.

More details of the campaign can be found here.

HCST Last Man Standing Competition
Week 10 and we are down to the last 2…

No fixtures last weekend, which gave the final two tipsters even more time to analyse the stats & make an informed choice for their team ( or pick a name out of a hat ).

** STOP PRESS** – We can reveal that the remaining contestants have plumped for Man City and Crystal Palace.

FSF Away Fans Survey 2018/19
The Football Supporters Federation (FSF) are running their annual survey of the experience of fans who attend away games.

The survey can be found here and should take only a few minutes to fill in.

We encourage all travelling fans to complete the survey to allow the FSF to measure the experience of the away fan. Remember you can fill it in for each away gameswhich you attend..

Hull City Ladies
In difficult, blustery conditions last Sunday, the Tigresses went down to a battling 2-1 defeat at home to champions elect Blackburn Rovers Ladies.

City were level at half time but a scrappy goal by the visitors was enough for them to claim their 19th win out of 20 league games so far this season and just 2 points from the title with 4 games to play.

This Sunday, City are away to 11th placed Sheffield Ladies and with a similar performance to last week will be hopeful of victory.

Good luck girls

Weekly News Update

It was a tale of two halves last Saturday as City unfathomably managed to throw away a 2-0 halftime lead against QPR. City will rue lost points in a game very similar to Rotherham at home a few weeks ago. Those extra four points would see city on the coattails of the top six, which unfortunately now look a very unlikely outcome.

No game this week due to the International break with England taking on the Czech Republic and Montenegro.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

HCST Open Letter to the Club.
In response to a lack of dialogue from Hull City, The Trust have this week sent an open letter hilighting a number of issues which are of concern to fans…

The issues include Nigel Adkins contract situation, Ticket pricing for 2019/20 (including the return of meaningful concessions) and the Emergency Evacuation incident (see more below)

The full text of the letter can be read here on our website.

The open letter has gained national support, with Henry Winter (Chief Football Writer for The Times) re-tweeting our original tweet:

We hope that the issues are discussed at the forthcoming Supporters Committee meeting, which unfortunatly we have not been invited to attend…

(As we go to press we understand that the Club have started contract negotiations with Nigel – we congratulate them in responding so quickly to our letter…)

Evacuation False Alarm
The Trust have still had no feedback from the club regarding the Evacuation False Alarm during the Birmingham City game on Saturday 2nd March.

However, we reached out to Peter Curry, who is Structures, Safety & Emergency Planning Manager at Hull City Council to see if he could provide us with some information to share with fans.

His reply can be read on our website here – Thank you very much Peter for your prompt reply.

The Club or the SMC could have made this statement, but have chosen not to do so…

More details on our original statement can be read here on our website.

HCST attend National Fans Group Meeting.
On Tuesday (19th) HCST Chairman Geoff Bielby and Treasurer Pete Fleming travelled to London to represent the Trust at the EFL Fans’ Group meeting .

The meeting, organised by The Unified Football Supporters Organization (the working title for the combined FSF/SD organisation) is open to all Supporters Groups

The meeting takes place ahead of the TUFSO formal meeting with EFL executives and is one of the ways that fans can give their input ahead of those bi-annual meets.

Topics covered included Flexible Football Rail Tickets, Governance / Clubs in Crisis and (topically) Pitch Incursions.

One topic of particular interest to City fans is the area of Structured Dialogue with clubs.

Details of the meeting will appear in a future newsletter.

HCST Last Man Standing Competition
Week 9 and they thought it was all over…

With about 10 mins to go last Saturday we had a winner.

One of the remaining contestants had the temerity to pick Hull City,
whilst the other two kept picking whoever was playing Huddersfield!

Ah well, Huddersfield snatched a defeat from the jaws of victory and
City, did, well a ‘typical City’.

So we are now down to two remaining.

Remember for there to be a winner, there has to be a Last Man Standing.

If both fail at the last hurdle, everyone is back in.

No fixtures this weekend, but depending how long the last two carry on
for, we hope to have another round in before the end of the season.

We may need to include non Saturday fixtures (eg Easter, final Sunday
etc) and may well make the rules slightly harder (Championship games only).

Watch out for an email when we get to that stage. Be good for you all to

Hull City Ladies
The Tigresses had to come from behind to beat rock bottom Bradford City Ladies 3-1 last weekend, condeming the West Yorkshire visitors to their 20th consecutive league defeat.

The girls are at home once again this Sunday, but this time they host runaway leaders Blackburn Rovers Ladies who are closing in on a Woman’s Super League 2 return having won 18 out of their 19 matches to date.

City have now gone 3 games unbeaten but will need to raise their game to make it a 4th.

Kick off this Sunday is once again 2pm at the Hull University Sports Ground on Inglemire Lane.

Good luck girls

Response from Peter Curry, Structures, Safety & Emergency Planning Manager at Hull City Council – False Alarm Birmingham City Match

The Club & the SMC have failed to respond to our enquiry on the recent aborted stadium evacuation but it didn’t stop us getting an answer. Many thanks to Peter Curry for his insight, copy of email received below:

It is unfortunate that the SMC have not responded to your request for information about the false alarm incident at the recent fixture. I am also awaiting a written report but can give you the brief details following the de-brief.

Because of issues outside of the stadiums control the fire alarm was triggered in the Arena in West Park. This alarm is connected to the stadium alarm but should have been isolated from the control room when the Fire Panel Control was switched from normal day to day operation to match day mode. Because it was not isolated, the fire alarm went into immediate alarm rather than a silent alarm which allows a delay on match days for the fire response team to investigate. The alarm should only go into full evacuation if triggered by the safety officer or a failure to respond to the stage one alarm. Because it went into immediate full evacuation the message normally received by the stewards was bypassed, hence they did not know how to respond, because it is drilled into them during training that they should respond to one particular message (can’t tell you what it is) and they had not received the message. I can assure you that the incident was under full control within 30 seconds of the full evacuation message being transmitted. Having de-briefed the incident I am satisfied that this was outside of the control rooms control and measures have been put in place to avoid a repeat.

Open Letter To Hull City

As we enter the final stages of the 2018/19 season, it is an absolute credit to Nigel Adkins and his backroom team, that despite the exodus of players last summer, and the minimal level of investment given to him by the Club owners, that he has managed to be able to guide the team to remain within touching distance of the play-off places.

It is extremely concerning therefore, to the players and most Hull City supporters that the future of Nigel and his support staff remains uncertain leaving himself, (and the fans), unsure as to whether their contracts are to be extended beyond the end of the current season.

National journalists and broadcasters have stated their surprise in recent weeks at the uncertainty over Nigel’s future with the Club, especially as the commendable job he has done with the team in such difficult circumstances, which can only have enhanced his reputation within the English game and alerted proactive owners of competitive clubs to his services.

Should a competitor club decide to make an approach for Nigel, it would be completely understandable that he would be tempted to leave Hull City and decide to ply his trade elsewhere and leave behind a backdrop of further uncertainty on and off the pitch.

The decline in matchday attendances at the K.Com stadium this seasons has been alarming but hardly surprising given the Club’s continued use of the unpopular and much maligned Membership Scheme, that despite offering at times competitive prices for adult supporters, does not offer concessionary prices which has priced out less abled, senior citizen and junior supporters, the latter of which has been a major concern for too long in relation to the future fan base of the Club. Regarding the Club’s stance on disabled ticketing, in light of the recent victory over York Barbicans disabled ticketing policy,  we ask the Club for an update on this important, current matter.

The uncertainty over contracts beyond this season, is not confined to just the management team, yet again, the futures of numerous first team players are not clear as the season draws to a close and contract extensions not discussed.

As a backdrop to the above, the prolonged uncertainty over the Club ownership situation continues to be a huge distraction to supporters, and undoubtedly the management team and players at the Club, which can only hamper medium to longer terms decisions that need to be made on an individual and collective level.

It has been widely reported that there have been numerous parties interested in purchasing the Club since the play-off final victory over Sheffield Wednesday almost 3 years ago, none of which have reached a successful conclusion. The recently reported asking price quoted by Assem Allam of £50m is well in excess of purchase prices for Championship clubs over the past 2 years, (all of whom owned their stadiums), and bafflingly £9m more than the figure quoted last October.

With any business transaction, there needs to be a willing buyer and a willing seller to conclude a deal. The inflated current asking price for a Club with minimal assets cannot be conducive to new owners making a successful purchase and is surely a matter that the Allam family need to review to a more realistic and achievable asking price.

Unfortunately, the relationship between the Club and the Hull City Supporters Trust board continues to remain fractured following a decision by the Club ‘senior management’ to no longer formally deal with the Trust whilst our current Chairman remains in his position. Supporters Trusts are independent, not for profit organisations that are designed to enable a voice for fans and the local community, with an ultimate aim of fan representation on the Club Board.

We have stated previously that we cannot allow the Club to dictate the structure and operation of the Trust Board, as this would remove our independence and impartiality in representing our members and the wider fan base.

Despite the Trust being the largest independent supporter organisation connected to Hull City, we were not invited to the Club’s only ‘Supporters Committee meeting’ so far this season. We are aware that there is a further meeting scheduled by the Club on March 27th, and again it appears that we will not be invited to send a representative of the Board, (excluding the current Chairman as offered to the Club and endorsed as a fair and reasonable compromise offer by the English Football League, Football Supporters Federation and Supporters Direct), and therefore respectfully request through this open communication, that the Club address the following concerns:

  1. The future of Nigel Adkins and his backroom staff is resolved as a matter of urgency well in advance of the end of the current season, which we hope will see a suitable contract extension offered by the Club.
  2. The Club advises all supporters on the membership pricing for the 2019/20 season no later than the end of April 2019 to enable supporters to make an informed decision on whether they wish to commit to continue to make direct debit payments during the close season period and into the new season. (The Club stated in July 2018 that prices would remain at current levels until October 2018 and then reviewed although there is no evidence that this was ever conducted. We believe it is unfair and unjust for supporters to be expected to continue to make monthly payments without an immediate review)
  3. That concessionary pricing models are reintroduced for junior, senior and disabled supporters for both the membership scheme and supporters wishing to purchase tickets via the Matchday Card.
  4. There is an extended period for supporters wishing to obtain a Matchday Card at no cost. (The Club have refused to respond to our written concerns from August & September 2018, that 36-hour window of opportunity in July was unacceptably short and that this timescale was not promoted enough to enable supporters to sign up for the card)
  5. The Club issue a full statement in response to the aborted stadium evacuation during the half time period at the recent Birmingham City fixture on March 2nd, clearly stating what actions have been addressed with the Stadium Management Company and confirmation that all matchday staff have been re-trained and reminded of their individual roles and responsibilities during such a situation, which was not evident at the time of the incident above.

As a Trust Board, we are elected to represent our members with their queries and concerns in relation to matters affecting them as Hull City supporters, and we will continue to do so despite the Club’s current stance of only offering of informal contact with our Secretary.

Finally, we remain open to engaging in meaningful dialogue with the current and any responsible Club owners, whilst remaining hopeful that a deal to enable more proactive and engaging ownership for the Club is agreed in the foreseeable future.

Hull City Supporters Trust

Update – False Alarm Birmingham City Match

Further to our statement on 6th March following the automated evacuation alert that was broadcast over the stadium tannoy system at half time of the Birmingham home game, which stated the club were, “in consultation with SMC with regards to this. A response to supporters will be given in due course”. We, unfortunately, have to inform you that, at this time, no response has been forthcoming from the club.

The Trust expresses concerns for the clubs supporters especially the most vulnerable following the debacle and have not been reassured by the lack of response by Hull City. We call for a robust review by the City Council and the SMC urgently.

Weekly News Update

In our previous newsletter we mentioned that the last week was potentially season defining and two defeats has probably seen any faint hope of the play offs disappear.

City competed for an hour against Nottingham Forest before conceding three in quick succession which was followed by a tough game on Wednesday night against top of the league Norwich City. The Tigers showed some decent attacking play however their defending was nowhere near the level required and a 3-2 defeat in all fairness was generous on City.

QPR are the visitors to the KCOM this weekend, hopefully the good home form can continue and deliver another win before heading into the International break.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

HCST ‘Kids for a Quid’
One of the proposals passed at the recent AGM was that junior members will now only pay £1 for Membership.

Previously junior (non-voting) members had paid an annual fee £2, now it will be a ‘one-off’ payment of £1 for junior membership until they reach their 16th birthday

Evacuation False Alarm
The Trust have had no feedback from the club regarding the Evacuation False Alarm during the Birmingham City game on Saturday 2nd March.

In response to our original enquiry the club replied saying “We are in consultation with SMC with regards to this. A response to supporters will be given in due course”.

As it is now two weeks since the incident, and we have another home game on Saturday (16th) we would expect that the club treat the matter with some urgency.

We have today made further representation to the club and will keep you informed of the outcome.

More details on the statement can be read here on our website.

HCST scarves delivered to Middle Child
HCST Secretary Rich Mathers has delivered scarves for Middle Child Theatre’s forthcoming production “Us Against Whatever”.

The production is described as  “An electrifying cabaret about the places we keep in our hearts” features a section entitled “Windass at Wembely”.

The Trust have donated a number of scarves for use in the performance.

We urge all members to attend this performance from this award-winning local theatre group.

More details, including dates & prices, can be found here on the Middle Child website.

North Ferriby United wound up.
The Villagers have been liquidated due to unpaid debts at a hearing at Hull County Court this morning (Friday).

This brings to an end 85 years of football history, culminating in THAT day at Wembley.

All at HCST hope that something can be rescued from this terrible situation.

EFL / MIND Badges
The EFL and MIND have launched a campaign entitled ‘On Your Side’ to raise awareness of mental health issues.

HCST Last Man Standing Competition
Week 8 and only 3 tipsters remaining…

Last week 9 fell by the wayside due to slip-ups by West Brom and (as usual) Spurs.

Two of the 3 remaining are from our ‘International representation’, currently residing in France and Holland respectively.

Those of you who are playing should have received an email, if not contact Ian via the address on the website.

If you didn’t sign up this time – don’t worry, we will be running another competition after this one finishes!.

After a blank weekend, the Tigresses came back from behind twice to earn a 3-3 draw at home to the famous Doncaster Belles, securing a point with a last minute equaliser.

This Sunday, the girls will be very confident going into another home game against bottom of the table Bradford City Ladies who have unfortunately lost all 19 of their league games so far this season……conceding 111 goals, (and scoring just 10), during their dreadful run..

Kick off for this potential goal fest is the usual 2pm at the Hull University Sports Ground on Inglemire Lane.

HCST’s Partners of the Week

Members Voice…..

Today is our first post from Gareth Walker, a HCST member who contacted us asking to write football related content. We are pleased to publish this and ask any other member / Hull City AFC supporter to contact us if they have similar content.

How do you solve a problem with fan Invasion?
It’s been 24 hours since the shocking and quite frankly disgraceful attack on footballer Jack Grealish in the Midlands derby between Birmingham & Aston Villa when a so called ‘fan’ ran onto the pitch and assaulted him from behind. This follows on from the scenes north of the border when a glass bottle was thrown at Celtic’s Scott Sinclair & a Hibernian ‘fan’ confronted Rangers footballer James Taverner. Home Office figures show that arrests for pitch incursions at games in England and Wales have risen over the last five seasons from 155 in 2012-13 to 204 in 2016-17 – the most recent season they account for. Stadium safety is paramount these days with what happened at Hillsborough and with supporters trusts planning and asking for safe standing to return to grounds across the country, some may feel this is a step backwards in the pursuit for these changes.
The incidents come amid a rise in allegations of fan violence and abuse, with Raheem Sterling allegedly the subject of racist taunts from a Chelsea fan this season, while a Tottenham supporter threw a banana at Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Points deductions & closed doors matches will only punish those who aren’t responsible, and fans might see their team get relegated due to an idiot encroaching onto the pitch. Some fans may argue that this could cause situations, where a supporter could pretend to be from another club and get their rivals punished, although an investigation by the police should be able to find out where a fan’s true allegiance lies. Looking at the statistics, for the third consecutive year, more Birmingham City fans were arrested last season (95) than any other club in England’s top five leagues.

Could this be the club where the very fan culture itself must be brought into question by the EFL? Or is what is happening in football mirroring what is happening in society currently with the fatal stabbings & police cuts in the UK? Just when football is about to secure another multi-billion-pound TV deal, there is a bad combination of clubs getting richer but cutting costs and police forces cannot subsidise football. Some may argue that clubs should be forced to pay out for more in policing in stadiums to help stewards in dealing with the situations that arise, would this have a negative effect on clubs in League 2 who themselves struggle to finance the playing staff on the pitch? The only certain outcome that must come from this is the PFA and the football leagues bodies must come together and for the authorities heavily fine and life-time ban the individuals who decide to ruin the experience for everybody else.

Weekly News Update

Just when you think City have blown any chances of the play offs this season they put together back-to-back wins to keep that glimmer of hope. In fact, it was a very good performance last Saturday to defeat fellow play-off chasers Birmingham City 2-0.

The Tigers now head to the appropriately named City ground to face Nottingham Forest, a stadium where City have won their last five league fixtures. With Forest level on points with City it will be a real six pointer and the loser knowing their promotion chances are all but over.

Following the weekend the Tigers then visit title hopefuls Norwich City. Another very tough game in what will most likely be a season defining week. Let’s hope Nigel Adkins and the team pull off a couple of wins!

Here’s your update from the trust this week…

HCST Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting took place on Saturday 2nd March at the William Gemmel Social Club.

We would like to thank all those who attended.

The minutes of the meeting can be read here (along with all previous AGM Minutes).

The Annual Report presented at the meeting can be read here – please share amongst your non-member friends to show them the work which is done by the Trust – and prehaps persuade them to join?

HCST Board Meeting
Following the AGM the Trust held a Board meeting on Monday 4th March at the William Gemmel

Geoff Bielby was re-elected as Chairman and the Board welcomed newly elected Director Bobbi Hadgraft and newly elected co-opted Directors Dave Batte and Russell Anson.

The minutes of the meeting can be read here (along with all previous Board Meeting Minutes).

Evacuation False Alarm
The Trust have contacted the club on behalf of concerned fans regarding the Evacuation False Alarm during the Birmingham City game on Saturday 2nd March.

In response the club have replied saying “We are in consultation with SMC with regards to this. A response to supporters will be given in due course”.

We will monitor the situation and make further representation to the club if no response is forthcoming in a timely manner.

More details on the statement can be read here on our website.

HCST support local Theatre Group
The Trust are pleased to announce their support for Middle Child Theatre’s forthcoming production “Us Against Whatever”.

The production described as  “An electrifying cabaret about the places we keep in our hearts” features a section entitled “Windass at Wembely”.

The Trust have donated a number of scarves for use in the performance.

We urge all members to attend this performance from this award-winning local theatre group.

More details, including dates & prices, can be found here on the Middle Child website.

Managers Contract position hilighted on EFL on Quest
TV Pundit Dean Ashton has commented on Nigel Adkins contract situation at City.

Dean said: “It seems pretty obvious to pretty much everyone other than the owners themselves [that they should extend his contract]. Like he said himself, [they were] pretty much tipped for relegation and they’re pushing for the top six – it’s been an outstanding season for him and his team.”

We again urge the club to resolve this situation as soon as possible.

Online app takeover of Footbal Club falls through
The takeover of Hednesford Town by online app OWNA Football Club has fallen through.

A vote was due to take place tonight among OWNAFC’s 3,500-plus members – who have paid a one-off fee of £49 to have their say on new signings as well as hiring and firing staff from their mobile phones – to decide if the Keys Park side were a club they wished to continue to pursue. However, both OWNAFC and Hednesford have now confirmed the takeover is off.

The FSF have commented on the issue saying: “We firmly believe any prospective owner of a football club should meaningfully engage with the stakeholders at that club, chief among whom are the supporters, for any takeover to have legitimacy and ultimately to be sustainable and successful.”

The Trust fully agree with the position of the FSF on this matter.

The full FSF statement can be read here on their website

More details on OWNA FC can be found on their website.

EFL / MIND Badges
The EFL and MIND have launched a campaign entitled ‘On Your Side’ to raise awareness of mental health issues.

Part of this campaign includes the sale of ‘On Your Side’ badges in the colours of all the 72 EPL teams.

Hull City badges are still avaiable and can be bought from the MIND on-Line Shop here.

Football fan Tomas Cresswell would like to thank all fans who completed the survey.

The survey, which was to support his dissertation is about the commercialisation of professional football, was completed by far more fans than he anticipated, which gave him an excellent range of statistical data to back up his argument.

Hull City Ladies
After a difficult start to 2019, the Tigresses returned to winning ways last Sunday with an impressive 2-1 home win over 4th placed Huddersfield.

It was the best Ladies team performance for a number of weeks and hopefully the start of a strong final run in towards the end of the season.

Town were 4-1 victors in the reverse fixture earlier in the season so City will need to be on their game to get a positive result.

The girls are not in action this weekend but do host Doncaster Belles next Wednesday, (13th March), in a winnable looking game. Kick off is 7.45pm at the Hull University Sports Ground on Inglemire Lane.

Funds available for Local Youth Football teams.
Do You (or someone you know) run a Hull Boys Sunday Football team or an East Riding Girls Team?

The collapse of the Wembley sale might result in no extra funds going to grass roots football, but don’t worry – funding is available locally.

Several years ago, the then Tigers Co-Operative, now Hull City Supporters Trust, donated £6,000 to support local youth football teams.

For more details of the scheme follow the link here.

There are still funds available, of up to £100 per team. All you need to do is complete the application form available here.

Statement – False Alarm – Birmingham City Match

We were contacted after Saturdays game versus Birmingham City by numerous members and supporters, including carers for disabled supporters in relation to an automated evacuation alert that was broadcast over the stadium tannoy system at half time.

We have contacted the club and they have responded stating that they, “are in consultation with SMC with regards to this. A response to supporters will be given in due course”.

We thank the club for their email and look forward to their response.

Weekly News Update

Two contrasting results over the last week for the Tigers has seen their slim play off hopes all-but evaporate.

Firstly a trip to London was going very well after Fraizer Campbell opened the scoring however that was as good as it got for City who conceded five without reply. An improved showing three days later under a sadly record low KCOM crowd saw the Tigers bounce back with a 2-1 defeat of Millwall.

City can go level on points with opponents Birmingham on Saturday if they are victorius with the Blues also aiming for a play off push.

Here’s your update from the trust this week…
