James Chestney reports on another Cup defeat to Arsenal.
After seeing his side draw 0-0 with the Tigers in the game at the Emerites, Arsene Wenger certainly found a way to beat them in the FA Cup Replay on Tuesday night.
It was a slightly changed team for City but Wenger turned to his big guns to try and progress into the quarter finals this coming Saturday and it worked. Playing the likes of Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott saw the Tigers pay a heavy price with a 4-0 defeat.
It was a win which ended a run of five matches without a win for the Gunners and made sure they took their FA Cup unbeaten run to 15 games. The win now sees them in a home tie with Watford as they go in search of winning the trophy for a third year in a row.
Giroud had cause for celebration with the birth of his baby boy and he received another gift courtesy of David Meyler. A sloppy back pass fell for the French striker and he cracked home the ball for a 1-0 lead and Arsenal just upped it a gear.
This came four minutes from half-time and it broke an eleven game goal drought. He added another on 71 minutes and it was effectively game over. Sadly, it wasn’t for City as up popped Walcott, not once but twice to put the game beyond the Tigers’ reach.
It is now onwards and upwards for City who can now concentrate on trying to get back to the promised land of the Premier League. MK Dons are the visitors to the KC on Saturday and the Tigers have to put two dreadful home games behind them and find their teeth.
