Increased costs see KC Stadium community use ‘dwindle’

Coming just after HCST secured the KC as an Asset of Community Value, today’s Hull Daily Mail discusses a council report that says that increases in charges by the Stadium Management Company have squeezed out the use of the stadium by community groups.

A lease deal agreed with the Stadium Management Company when it was created included a clause setting out how many times the venue should be given over for community use.

It stipulated that up to 20 events per year should be nominated for a 50 per cent discount on normal booking charges, with a further 110 events being given priority status by the SMC.

But the new report, due to be discussed by scrutiny councillors today, says community use has dwindled as successive SMC regimes have struggled to juggle the costs of running a top-flight stadium.

It says: “There have been financial barriers to staging more community events.”
