The HCST Football Team ran out 7-4 winners against Orchard Park UFC at Haworth Park last Sunday, making it two wins from two following victory in our inaugural match against Blokes United in January.
It was Orchard Park who took an early lead at Haworth Park, going 1-0 up with a headed goal at the back post after a very well hit cross from the right, but HCST team captain Ryan Richardson soon equalised with a header from inside the 6-yard box. Shawn Pizer’s long throw evaded everyone and found Richardson in space at the back post to tap in. We then fell behind again when another right-sided cross was deflected by the unfortunate Jonathon Robinson and looped over goalkeeper David Heath into the net. Callum Harrison squared things up once more when he capitalised on a misjudged backpass to round the Orchard Park keeper and score. As the game continued into the second half things improved for the Trust team. The powerful Harrison claimed a further four goals, and midfield dynamo Chris Cable scored the other Trust goal with a low, left-footed drive after an incisive team move.
A Trust victory looked unlikely in the early stages as Orchard Park started the brighter, but we came into the game as it went on. The sound defending of Robinson and his central defensive partner Chris Whiting limited the effectiveness of the Orchard Park attack, while further up the pitch Cable and Pizer did well to gain control of a midfield battle where Orchard Park were also very strong, and up front Harrison and the pacey Michael Penny caused problems all game for the Orchard Park defence. Heath made a string of fine saves as the game grew old, including a header which looked destined for the top corner until he somehow tipped it over the bar.
We’d like to thank Orchard Park for stepping in at the last minute as our opposition to make the game possible as well as match referee Allan Cope, Blokes United who lent us their HCST-sponsored kit to play in and also Chris Johnson at the East Riding FA who helped us to arrange the pitch and referee.
Our next game is at 11am on Saturday 22nd April, ahead of City’s home match against Watford. The match will take place at St Mary’s school on the 4G pitch. We’re always looking for players so if you’re interested in playing in this match please contact Ryan on firstname.lastname@example.org or alternatively get in touch on Facebook or Twitter.
