City face Southampton away at 3pm on Saturday. The home side are firmly established in mid-table, sitting 9th with the magical haul of 40 points already on the board. Tigers fans will be hoping that (like Watford last week) they will be mentally “on the beach” with little play for, although The Saints are a decent side who can always be a threat, particularly against teams in the bottom half of the table.
City will have enjoyed three more days recovery time this week, with the Saints playing league leaders Chelsea on Tuesday evening, losing 4-2 at Stamford Bridge. Hopefully that extra recuperation time can benefit the visitors.
With Niasse’s (frankly ludicrous) Red Card now rescinded by the FA Marco Silva has no new injury or suspension concerns for the weekend. Claude Puel similarly has no fresh selection worries, although Charlie Austin and Virgil Van Dijk remain on the long-term injury list.
The bookies have the home side as strong favourite with City as long as 4/1.
Relegation rivals Swansea face a daunting trip away at Old Trafford, but don’t play until Sunday, so any result by City on Saturday would increase the pressure on their closest competitors for the unwanted 18th place.
